It's 3% milk fat and tastes pleasantly like cow milk.
We’re seeing a rise in the numbers of people benefiting from the Gut and Psychology Syndrome (GAPS) lifestyle, and so I decided to look into goat milk.
Delridge Grocery stand will be taking orders for pints/quarts/half gallons/gallons of raw pastured goat milk at the farm stand on Fridays starting this week, July 18th from 4:30-7:30pm, 5435 Delridge Way SW (just two houses south of the Delridge Library and across the street from their future location). Delridge grocery has other sources of milk, but if you’re the typical client of the farm who hasn’t had milk in 5 years, you might treat yourself to a pint or a gallon and surprise yourself with how good you feel.
The goats are on green pasture every day, and for 2 hours every day they are herded outside the pastures on public land to eat willows, blackberries, blooming fireweed, buttercup, butterfly bush varieties, and more.
The milk you get is fresh, often as fresh as 36 hours. I’ll be making a special July 19 Saturday 3PM milk delivery, however Monday 6PM deliveries will be the norm after this week.
For anyone who is lactose intolerant and likes the sour flavor of kefir, 24-48 hour kefir is the easy solution. 48 hour is more sour with no lactose. We have kefir starter and can set you up making your own.
The owner has pet milk for any animal who would do well with the nourishing qualities of raw pastured goat milk.
If anyone would like to support raw cheese making, the owner just needs to grow business enough to buy a better wrapping machine.
http://stjohncreamery.com/ is the farm’s website. You can currently order online only for pickup Monday night at their drop site a block off Admiral Way, but eventually you will be able to order online for the drop off at Delridge Grocery. Help wanted from Website Developer: Would any of you like to trade raw milk and cheese for website development help? If interested, please contact Marcia St. John at
http://stjohncreamery.com/ We can carpool to the farm if you like.
You may email/call the farm or me to get the kefir starter.
Tip: You need fresh raw milk available every 36 hours to keep kefir starter going, so don’t make all of your milk into kefir in the beginning like I did!
Milk lasts 5 days at 41 degrees
Milk lasts 10 days at 37 degrees
The kefir lasts longer with all the probiotics in it. (You’ve left it on the counter at room temperature for 24 hours, so I’d sure hope so!)
