Dear people,

Here's a reminder (below) about the West Seattle Meaningful Movie this Saturday.

Mary Paterson, from the organization No New Jim Crow (based on Michelle Alexander's book,

The New Jim Crow) will be attending and will contribute to the discussion after the film.

Come early, at 6:30, if you’d like some snacks and to talk with neighbors.

(Just let me know if you’d rather not get these movie notices.)

This Saturday, February 1,

West Seattle Meaningful Movies is showing Broken on All Sides, a movie about the racism in the criminal justice system.

Time: 7:00 PM
Come early, at 6:30, for snacks and a chance to meet your neighbors.

Place: Neighborhood House, 6400 Sylvan Way SW, Seattle 98126 (on the 21 and 128 bus routes)

Free, but donations gratefully received.

Has mass incarceration become the “new Jim Crow”? People of color are being targeted at significantly higher rates for stops, searches, arrests, prosecution, and harsher sentences. In this film, people on many sides of the criminal justice system explore a topic often walled off from public scrutiny.
