to High Performance WordPress
Rather than sit idly by while SEO 'experts' try to hijack this group,
let's talk about performance tuning again.

First up, SHORTINIT
In wp-settings.php around line 95 it checks if SHORTINIT is true. If
so, it stops loading the bulk of Wordpress.

This sounds like a great tool, but I haven't tried using it yet.
Anybody have experience with using SHORTINIT or similar hacks to speed
things up? If so, what's the proper way to use this tool?

First time I hear about it. So, what exactly dose it leave out?

From what I can see, this looks like something that would only be used in the context of speeding up external scripts that include wp-load.php

Personally I've always followed this philosophy on such a practice - http://ottopress.com/2010/dont-include-wp-load-please/

If anyone out there is using SHORTINIT in a different way, I would love to hear!

And thanks for chiming in when you did Scott, I was about to hit the unsubscribe button.

Here's a pretty cool discussion on the topic - http://theme.fm/2011/09/wordpress-internals-how-wordpress-boots-up-2315/

Good spot, Brian. I was about to link to that article too.

I thought SHORTINIT was used in WP for ajax requests too. Obviously not all of WordPress needs to be loaded to respond to an ajax request.

Great move kicking off discussion again, Scott!

Cheers,
Japh
