computers into our computer lab. We’re excited to be working with two
groups currently, providing digital storytelling workshops; The Center
for Young Women’s Development and the Mission Independent Living
Skills Program. We’re also wrapping up a Go Healthy series with the
Horizons MYEEP program and preparing for a series with Oasis for
Girls.
We are also currently looking for a part time BILINGUAL MEDIA ARTS
TRAINER to join the HIFY family. We’ve uploaded the job description to

If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities, outreach opportunities,
and opportunities for youth to learn- Look no further!
“We would like to provide the participants with a chance to explore
what kind of a world we are fighting to create. The theme of the
conference is people of color solidarity around the world,
acknowledging and honoring the resistance and struggle of people of
color against colonization, imperialism and conquest. Workshops should
tie into the following topics: Ethnic Studies, Resistance Movements,
History, Culture, Current Issues, Organizing, Leadership, and Healthy
Living. Students will have the opportunity to become connected to
different Bay Area youth organizations. This years Ethnic Studies
Conference will provide the space for conscious raising and alliance
building amongst students. Students from around the Bay Area are
building a movement and the conference will continue to empower young
people to educate themselves, their community and to organize for
liberation”

HIFY Fundraiser; LESSONS LEARNED:
Grassroots Sex Educators Envisioning the
Future of Sex Ed
We will be celebrating HIFY’s Board President’s recent book, Risky
Lessons, On February 19, 2009. It will take place at the Center for
Research on Gender and Sexuality/National Sexuality Resource Center at
835 Market Street. HIFY folks will read from Jessica Fields’ book and
then explore what it suggests about the future of sex education.
Admission to the event is free; donations of $25 will get you a copy
of Risky Lessons, signed by the author!
In addition to the CRGS and NSRC, the SFSU Sociology Department,
SFSU's Health Equity Initiative, and Connect to Protect are all co-
sponsoring the event. It should be a fantastic evening, all for the
great cause of supporting anti-oppression sexuality and health
education for youth. I hope to see you there! Bring a friend, bring a
young person, bring an educator!
