Happy summer everyone!

So, summer is finally here and HIFY is hitting the ground running! We
have been busy doing workshops with youth from all walks of life and
enjoying every minute of it! We have also welcomed a new Bi-Lingual
Health Educator to our staff; Lalo Duran! Lalo has a lot of experience
doing outreach and workshops in the Bay Area community and we are
happy to bring his expertise to our organization. We are also looking
for one more staff member to bring on and are in the process of
sifting through resumes.

We want to thank everyone once again for subscribing to the HIFY
monthly e-mail. We love the opportunity to keep everyone well
informed on some of the resources available in the Bay Area especially
now that the summer is here and a lot of youth are on break.

Don’t forget that a lot of the information that we get is from you
guys so shoot us an e-mail if you have any announcements, events, or
other resources you would like us to include in next month’s e-mail.
As always, check out our Myspace, Facebook, and YouTube pages!! We
are updating them frequently so…Check them out (the links are at the
end of the e-mail)!

We hope that all of you are enjoying the beginning to your summer
too!!

Right on and Take care,

Help HIFY get Pepsi Refresh Project grant!!!

So Pepsi is awarding these big grants and one of our trainers, Cassie
Benton, threw our name in the mix to get one. We are eligible to
receive a grant for the month of July. The way it’s awarded is by how
many votes a proposal gets. HIFY is going to need your help in getting
votes!!

To vote, go to the website www.refresheverything.com. When you get to
the page, click the “Health” category and then the “50,000” category.
Once you’re there, look for HIFY’s grant proposal by scrolling through
them. You can do this by pressing the “near you” button (if you live
in the Bay Area) or specifically looking for our proposal in the
search space in the top right corner. Our proposal is called "Our
Voices, Our Health: Peer Health Education in San Francisco CA". This
grant will be a chance for us at HIFY to get back to doing some of the
stuff we do best: Training Peer Health Educators!

Voting for our grant starts July 1st. You can vote up to 10 times a
day so don’t be shy and show your love for HIFY!

Gender Queer Digital Storytelling

Gender Queer voices are often silent, or overshadowed by the greater
volume of the LGBTQIQ communities- and it’s time we spoke up. Gender
Queer is hard to define, because often it’s essence is defined by what
you aren’t.

If you aren’t just a boy, or you aren’t just a girl…
If you don’t prescribe to the gender binary…
If you aren’t happy passing for anything, because that simplicity
fails to recognize your complexity. . .
If you aren’t one for identity politics, but are queering identity all
together. . . .

You may be Gender Queer- But really, you know who you are, and you
know how to describe it best.

Youth ages 14-24 Learn Media making skills in order to create your own
portal for speaking your mind and changing the world. Talk with other
folks about what it means to you to be Gender Queer.
