HIFY News:
Here we are again. We're about to embark on another year of working to
improve the health and well-being of Bay Area youth (and families).
Looking back on the year, we are thankful to everyone that worked with
us, attended workshops and trainings, or just kept HIFY in their heart
throughout 2009. Thank you.
In the past month we’ve worked with these groups:

Free Pancake breakfast for LGBTQIQ Youth and their providers!
Join us this saturday January 2, 2010 @ Dimensions Clinic 12-3pm for a
breakfast spread to celebrate the new year and all that we've
accomplished in 2009. Come eat delicious food, play board games, and
mingle with your community!

Date Change: Substance Use and Youth Provider Training
HIFY's Substance Use training has been moved to February 17th from
9:30-4:30. This means that the training will only be 1 day long but
will still have all the great information on how to talk to young
people about substance use, harm reduction, and the impacts of
substances on communities.

Dimensions clinic has partnered with HIFY to provide a space for queer
youth to hang out on Saturday afternoons. Stop by after getting tested
(Dimensions is an awesome clinic!) or just come to hang out.

In case you didn't know what great libraries we have in the Bay Area-
you should check them out!
This month @ The Oakland Public Library main branch:
The TeenZone Art Wall and ACE Arts presents a compelling display of
art and letters that respond to violent deaths in our community.
Curated by Kristi Holohan of ACE Arts, Challenges of Champions
features letters written by local teens to slain victims. Hand-
painted, wooden sculptures - memorials to the 125 murder victims in
2008 - will also be displayed.
January 21, 2010: The only Northern California screening of the new
movie "Papers the Movie" dealing with an undocumented youth's
struggles as they turn 18. Free for youth and adults. For more info

KQED Youth Perspectives Contest:

We are looking for young people to share their Perspectives on two
themes: "Coming Out" or "Friday Night." Perspectives may take the form
of a short commentary, video, or photo slideshow.
One grand prize, an iPod Touch, will be awarded to the best overall
entry for each theme.
Selected Perspectives will also air on KQED Public Radio and be
published on kqed.org throughout the months of January and March.
The deadline for the "Coming Out" theme is January 11, so don't wait!

SF Family Support Admin Assistant (full time)
The Administrative Assistant will be responsible for providing a broad
range of administrative support within a fast-paced environment to
ensure the successful functioning of SFFSN. The position will be
jointly supervised by the SFFSN Director and Training Coordinator.
Spanish Health Worker/Interpreter (part time)
The Health Worker is responsible for contacting newly arriving
refugees, asylees and victims of trafficking, assisting in conducting
health assessments, conducting outreach including home visits, agency
site visits, and community fairs, providing clinic support services,
and more.

New Queers Party for LGBTQIQ Youth
January 8th, 2010. Save the date because the Lady Ga Ga imposter will
be serving goodies, fierce glances and glam from 3-6pm. Don't miss
out!

The Pacific Center for Human Growth is excited to announce the
creation of a Parent/Teen Communication Workshop through our Clinical
Youth and Family Programs.
In this six week group we will work towards increasing healthy
communication between LGBTQ youth and their families. Through this
hands-on workshop we will offer families tools, support, and a safe
space to explore and improve their relationships. This is will be a
curriculum-based support group incorporating psycho-social education,
therapeutic interventions and community/peer support. We hope to serve
youth ages 14-22 and their parent(s) who are having mild to moderate
problems in their communication and who seek to enhance their
relationships.
Time: Wednesdays, 5-6pm . Starting in February. 6 weeks.
Place: Pacific Center for Human Growth, 2712 Telegraph Ave. Berkeley,
CA 94705
Cost: $5-10 per group. Sliding scale.
