Positive Sexuality and Youth Training: October 13th and 14th.
Positive Sexuality & Youth (Introduction) - October 13th, 2009
We all want the best for young people, but this often does not
include teaching young people about both the joys and the dangers of
sex and intimacy.
This training will take participants through the basics
of sex education and how to incorporate youth- friendly messages into
our prevention efforts. We will give an overview of Positive
Sexuality and provide examples for teaching anatomy, STI myths and
facts, HIV, and healthy relationships. We will also practice through
intensive activities how to handle questions about sex that young
people might have in real settings. No previous experience is
required to attend this training. (5 CE credits)
Positive Sexuality & Youth (Extended Learning) - October 14th, 2009
Abstinence Only education? Comprehensive Sex Education?
No matter which side of the debate you’re on, both models restrict the
possibilities for students.
This training further explores HIFY’s approach to a
holistic and comprehensive sex(uality) education and supports
participants in uncovering the hidden and sex negative messages that
might subconsciously come into our work. We will explore personal
values and boundaries around sex, and how to have those conversations
with the youth we serve. We will focus on working with youth survivors
and youth of color. Participants will be introduced to Sexual Harm
Reduction and practice talking with youth about how to stay safe. Our
Introduction to Positives Sexuality & Youth is highly recommended. (5
CE credits)
**We want these trainings to be accessible to all providers seeking to
make a better world for young people. If you’re concerned about
pricing, give me a call so we can discuss the many financial aid
options!
A little more about the upcoming trainings:
All Courses meet the qualifications for 5 hours of continuing
education credit for MFTs and/or LCSWs
as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Provider
Number 4478.
Trainings will be conveniently located at:
575 Market St. (Suite 1850) San Francisco, CA 94105 a short walk from
Montgomery BART/MUNI station.

Q-Lab: Reimagined
QLab is community service opportunity for young people 24 and younger
interested in using digital advocacy tools to empower their peers and
improve sexual health for all young people. Members of QLab meet every
Wednesday from 3pm to 6pm to discuss health promotion and produce
educational videos relevant to the genders, sexuality and health of
young people. Our goal is to make these videos available to youth
service providers, teachers, LGBT student groups, parents and other
community members as resource and advocacy tools to increase sexual
literacy among our communities.
QLab is collaboration between the Youth Program and Health Initiatives
for Youth (HIFY).
Next cycle starts October 7th!!

Youth Worker Collective: Annual Youth Worker Survey Begins Sept. 7th
The Youth Worker Collective (formerly known as the Youth Development
Peer Network) is a group of people who wants to validate youth work as
a profession and create spaces for youth workers to gather,
rejuvenate, and connect to people and resources for their personal
development. They believe that stronger youth workers equals stronger
youth serving organizations and most importantly better services for
youth.
One way that they support youth workers is by collecting your voices
so that we can see what the needs or the community, our community,
are. Fill out the survey and share your experiences, your values, and
your challenges and help shape the future of the collective and the
Youth Worker Profession.
If you participate in the survey you will be invited to see the
results after the completion of the survey and be a part of the
recommendation process if you’re interested.
Visit
www.ydpn.org on or after Sept. 7th to get more info and fill out
the survey!
