MORE ON JJSE AND OUR PORTFOLIO/COMMUNITY PANELS PROCESS:
During assessment season the June Jordan School for Equity (JJSE)
reaches out to people across San Francisco to join us in the process
of evaluating our student’s work. In most schools student assessment
happens behind closed doors and is only released to the public though
data points; there is no room for dialogue in a process like this. We
see the integration of community and family members into the
assessment process as vital to the success of our program.
JJSE is a small public school in San Francisco. We seek to give
students the tools to achieve the highest academic standards, so that
they may live out their dreams. With over 85% of our students coming
into 9th grade below grade level in both reading and math we have a
large task to work with our students and families to transform their
educational experience. But we are winning! With 75% of our graduates
heading off to 4 year colleges, the model is proving successful.
