Friday Harvest

We gave away lettuce mix, kale and herbs at the Hatteras Island Community Fair on Saturday - along with about 50 tomato plants. The harvest had the following donated quantities:

Lettuce - 5lbs 8 oz

Kale - 3 lbs 13 oz

Herbs - 1 lb 13 oz

We also took in over $50 in donations for tote bags, ect.

Thanks to Carol Bauer, Carol Seaman and Bernie (and me) for staffing the event.

At Bernies suggestion, I am sending this to the Farmers Market Distribution List. We are definitely being invited back next year and the organizers asked me if we could have more of our vendors join us. They would also like us to extend the invitation to Canetoe to join us.

We had 63 people stop at the combined Community Garden and the MG Ask A MAster Gardener booth at Community Day on Saturday. We didn't have any of the sign-in sheets but we had the file box with all the info sheets and the banner for our table. Could you please mail a dozen or more sign-in sheets to Carol Bauer for when the Farmers Market starts so we can keep accurate statistics for you? I can send you my notes but I will be putting the following data into ncsugarden database: 63 attendees: 60 W 3 S; 15 male, 48 female. I got their town but not their exact address. I got some of the questions but not all; we don't need to follow-up or send anything to anyone. We gave out about 5 soil test kits. Thought you would like to know.

Just a note to let you know we had a fantastic salad Saturday night with the lettuce from the garden.  Not sure what happened with the students from the Conetoe Family Life Center - thought they were planning to be there, although communication was a little sketchy.  Susan West
