Hi Carol !! I just read your letter to us all.
I only have a two-bedroom house and we are pretty much living in the second bedroom due to our mold-in-our-bedroom construction.
So I can't help you with a place to stay but I did see some 'rooms to rent or apartments to rent notices' hanging in the post office in Avon.
I sure hope you didn't have to sell that big-giant-beautiful-house across the street from Bonnie & Charles in the Village.
Happy New Years to you too.
Hope your son is working and all that worked out & is behind for you.

Date: Tue, 31 Dec 2013 10:28:49 -0500 (EST)
I just got the signed unconditional contract back on the lot on Dunleith in Brunswick Plantation Calabash, NC last night at 9pm. So that is going through no matter what! I close on the lot on Jan.17, 2014. I have already sold the stock and mutual funds to purchase the property; we are just waiting for everything to clear and settle. Haley from PlanView Design starts the design paperwork to submit to the Architectural Standards Committee on Jan. 2nd or whenever she returns from her holiday vacation. My house on the Outter Banks appears to be moving forward as they had the engineering and pest inspections done (with no comment from them). I am awaiting the appraiser to show up. The closing according to the contract is Jan. 17th BUT I expect it to be pushed back to the end of January because I don't think banks move that fast - BUT I could be surprised!!
I have packed up all my Spode Xmas china (service for 22) and the kitchen with the help of my friend Bonnie who keeps me focused and stops me from getting maudlin. IT is hard to leave a house you had designed and thought would be the last house you ever had!! It is also the last vestiges of my life with Dave. I am not packing anything else until I KNOW the closing is going through and is scheduled. I am spending today figuring out where to live between Jan 15 or 30th and March 15th. I will DEFINITELY be back in Calabash by March 15th when I can move back into my condo 12C at the Lakes. The owner is leaving 2 weeks earlier to accomodate my schedule. At the moment, I think it is going to be significantly less expensive for me to rent a place here in Avon. I have 2 or 3 options that I am exploring and comparing to the cost of moving into the Commons on the Plantation. Since I will be at the Manhattan Club in NYC from Feb. 17 - 20th, and helping with the R.I. Flower Show and the R.I. Master Gardeners Seed Sort for another 2 weeks, it is easier just to leave my stuff in 1 place with my cat. I now have 2 people willing to watch her here in Avon so that gives me great flexibility for my travels!! (Thank you Betty and Bonnie!!). I am also attending a Womens Retreat here in Avon in early February. I need to bring back the Seeds from the Seed Sort to all the Community Gardens here in DARE County. I have done this for the last 3 years and so this will be my last year to complete this commitment. It does help so many people!! While I am in Avon, I can also help out with the Community Garden that grows food for the Food Pantry in the winter (when I am not travelling).
So now I have to go through all my paperwork and see what I can burn up at the bonfire tonight!! So much stuff to get rid of and to think I just did a major downsizing 4 years ago!! All I am moving is my bedroom set (which I need to buy a new one and replace mine with), my hutch and a sofa table. I will need to buy all the rest of the furniture this summer. I will also need to buy plates and pots N pans, comforters and sheets and towels because I need to leave Devon's Landing fully furnished and equipped for the renters. It is still amazing how many boxes I need to pack of my gardening, art & cookbooks! And of course, I have an excessive amount of holiday stuff that is coming with me!! And all my cement planters and bird baths, and my metal sculpture JAZZ that I need to get someone to dig up! I am having Dale Bendula come and get all my windsurfing stuff. I can't see me windsurfing in the future. My new hobby is golf, (maybe bowling) and my new passion is Mah Jongg; so that's what will keep me busy and entertain me until my house is built. What is so special about the house (beyond not having to walk up 3 flights of steps with your groceries and clothing after a trip) I am building is the AMAZING game room I have planned. There will be a pool table, ping pong table, stand-up shuffleboard and fooz ball table. The kitchen will have my Mah Jongg table - also good for any other games!! Hopefully, the house will be completed by the end of September. One floor living with only 3 or 4 steps to get into the house - YEAH!! No more $3000/month mortgage - YEAH!!! Hopefully, no more hurricanes or bridge closings in the future - YEAH!!! It is amazing how your priorities change as you age!! Of course, you can visit me anytime after April 1 since the condo has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. The house when completed will have 3 bedrooms and 3 baths and a sofa in the den that pulls out to a queen. It will overlook the golf course and potentially have pond views too! I am enjoying the design phase since I know what I want and where I want it. Of course, keeping the cost reasonable has always been a challenge for me!
So I am wishing you all a very Happy, Healthy & Hugely Prosperous New Year and I will pray for you and hope you keep me in your prayers as I move on to my new life.
Love,
Carol M. Seaman
