Postal Carriers Gather Donated Bounty

RIO GRANDE, NEW JERSEY -- U.S. Postal Service carriers were busy after their rounds on Dec. 8 gathering hundreds of bags of non-perishable food, left by mailboxes by generous donors to help the needy of the county.
The collection, an annual solicitation by carriers, was gathered at Rio Grande and Wildwood post offices starting at about 3:45 a.m. The food was then forwarded to food pantries.
Those area food pantries have been hard pressed as more and more families turn to them to feed their families. http://www.capemaycountyherald.com/article/18666-postal-carriers-gather-donated-bounty

Postal Worker Convicted of Raping 86 Year old Woman
Florala, Alabama-A former postman and ex-pastor convicted of sexually abusing an elderly Florala woman is headed to prison.
Alabama Attorney General Troy King said a Covington County judge Thursday sentenced Jerry Hutcheson to four years for raping an 86-year-old woman in November 2004. King said Hutcheson committed the crime while delivering the victim's mail. He pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse in October.
The crime occurred at Florala just north of the Florida - Alabama State Line. A judge ordered Hutcheson to register as a sex offender and he must pay $3,000 court costs and a $200.00 fee to the Alabama Crime Victims Compensation Committee.
Hutcheson has a hearing January 14th regarding his request for probation. King said in a statement yesterday, "the crime was an appalling violation of human decency."
Arrest in robbery attempt of postal worker
Oakland, California-An Oakland police lieutenant on his way back from a meeting helped arrest a man who tried to rob a U.S. postal worker in East Oakland, authorities said Friday. Lt. Jim Meeks said he wasn't even in his usual part of the city when he spotted a 16-year-old boy and Dagoberto Garcia shortly after Garcia allegedly demanded postal worker Jayson Hilario's wallet at about noon Wednesday on the 2100 block of 100th Avenue.
Meeks said he was six blocks away and detained the boy on Bancroft Avenue as Garcia ran away. Police found Garcia hiding underneath a house and located a loaded 9mm firearm on a roof. Garcia was charged with assaulting a federal employee while armed. The boy was arrested on a separate warrant.
Meeks, a 26-year veteran who normally oversees police patrols in North Oakland, said just because he's a command officer doesn't mean he should be less involved.
"I just feel like a guy who knows the city and is doing what he could to protect it, that's all," said Meeks, reached Friday evening as he celebrated his 28th wedding anniversary in Las Vegas with his wife, Nina.     http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi%3Ff%3D /c/a/2007/12/08 /BADUTQNAN.DTL&cid=0&ei=WTpbR6SPLI_QywS19_lz
BEWARE: Nintendo Wii stolen from USPS package while in the mail stream
Here's something you certainly don't want to happen to you, especially during this time of the year. Kathy Green, a woman from Columbus, Georgia, had her Nintendo Wii console stolen while it was under the care of the United States Postal Service (USPS).

According to the report, Green was able to find the console on eBay. When the packaged arrived, however, she noticed that the box was torn open and that the Wii was already missing.

“It looks like someone ripped it backwards,” commented the customer. Post office officials, on the other hand, said that while they were sure tha t the package's weight was heavier at some point, they cannot ascertain when and where the problem happened. USPS Customer Service Manager Michael Matthews shared:
It’s hard to tell where in the system it got opened up or where it actually happened. Package your articles correctly, make sure they’re secure, be sure that you have an address on the inside of the package as well as the outside of the package.
Since Green had the package insured, she will be sure to receive a reimbursement for her money. Bot the problem is that local post offices only automatically refunds damaged and stolen goods if the price is under US$ 50. Anything more than that and a process with a corporate office must be initiated which will take about one whole month. http://wii.qj.net/Beware-Nintendo-Wii-stolen-while-with-United-States-Postal-Service/pg/49/aid/109371
Is God Living at the Post Office?
Puyallop, Washington-Yes my friends, someone in the Post Office has a heart. I know this is very UNofficial, because they might get in trouble if the big boys knew about it. But, we don’t even know what city this came from. It just showed up on someone’s  email one day, forwarded by someone who saw it somewhere.

“Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter, Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could; so she dictated these words:
Dear God,
Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got very sick. I hope that you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her You will know she is my dog. I really miss her.
Love, Meredith.
We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it. Then, Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought he had.
Yesterday there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed “To Meredith” in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called “When a Pet dies”. Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its unopened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey and Meredith and this note:
Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven.
Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need out bodies here in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by.
Thank you for the baeutiful letter and thank you mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I am whereever there is love.
Love, God.
