I downloaded the EDF 7 for MacOS Catalina from -support.com/view.php?auth=o1xhjuqaagpxeaaa8UyYt3uMb9dLFg%3D%3D I can't open the software as my Mac says it has not been certified as safe by Apple. I can override this but don't want to if there is a security risk. Can anyone tell me this software is definitely safe please. Tony
Dump the download. If you're not downloading from the App Store then only ever download from the maker's site. Otherwise you have no idea what the app may have been infected with. You can google EDF 7 and find the maker's website.
Unfortunately it's impossible for any of us to certify is any app is safe or otherwise. However, if you tell us why you think you need to use it, perhaps we can suggest better known apps that do the same thing. And yes, I know you're looking for duplicates... but duplicate what?
You want an app that will identify the potential duplicates, put them in an album or mark them with a keyword for easy retrieval and deletion by you. You don't want one that does the deletion itself for obvious reasons.
PowerPhotos is the iPhoto Library Manager version for Photos and is very powerful. Although more expensive I would recommend it as it has more capabilities than the others like the capability to merge Photos libraries or copy photos, both original and edited versions, along with their metadata between libraries.
Thanks for your reply. I will dump the download as you said. The reason why I want such an app is that I have a lot of photos which I want to try and organise and there are probably many duplicates that have accumulated over time. I am not worried about duplicate documents
This is not really a space issue, I have lots, but I have nearly 1000 ebooks that I sometimes file in multiple places. (No, I don't use the dreaded Kindle thanks.) So I may download it in a "holiday reading" folder, then I may also download in the "Publishers folder" and at some point I may have reviewed it and moved it to the "author" folder and then maybe I have forgotten that I downloaded it in the "lost interest in this" folder. So there could be anywhere from 1-4 version of a book floating around.
If I search specifically by name it shows me all of the versions and then I can delete the ones that are in the "wrong" place, but I don't have the time or inclination (despite my love of procrastination by rearranging files) to search 1000 titles. So is there a simple Dropbox search function for duplicates, or do I have to download some kind of app that will do the job. Can you download file titles and locations to a spreadsheet? At least that would let me filter/sort and then go back and find the ones I want to delete.
If that's required, I don't want one that automatically deletes duplicates, I want to pick which ones are required, but if you have any recommendations of on that is easy to use and pretty much straight forward (nothing fancy required, just find the duplicates (or those that may have a similar name since sometimes they get saved with slightly different titles), I'd appreciate the help.
Windows Storage Spaces offers deduplication but that is beyond the scope of this answer. I have had success with 3rd party duplicate file finders when faced with this issue for a single user. Here are two of my favorites.
Here is the thing with the duplicate files checker you need to understand. Some duplicate files finder available in the market only search for duplicates on the basis of date, time and name, which can sometimes be very dangerous since 2 different files can have same name and same size but different content and you might end up deleting the files you should not.
For example, taking the above example that I gave, even if there are 2 different files which have same name and same file size but different content, their file hash will be different, hence when you will use the duplicate file finder which using hashing algorithm to filter duplicate files, in that case the above stated both files will not be counted as duplicate since the content in each file is different despite the name and size of the file being the same.
As @andreroest said, Wise Duplicate Finder in Wise Care 365 is a good duplicate file checking software but it is only limited to scanning duplicates based on name and size of the files. They do not use any hashing algorithms which in turn may cause sometimes to delete the files that should not be deleted.

This insists upon adding its own Start Menu folder with 4 links from the system to itself,
and adds itself to "Programs and Features" as an item that can be uninstalled.
It may well use the registry - I just have not inspected that because what I have seen so far is horrendous.

V2.4.1 seems ok but I cant find any difference from v240 except;
It will initialise parameters from the local .ini file OK,
but will always attempt to write the .ini file back to the user profile,
which some may feel strongly about :-)
Has anyone noticed any other changes between the two versions?
i've been using this program since 2 years now.... clean all my pcs / laptops, home and work.... 6 in total. performed cleaning after 2 recoveries, use it to clean my external HDD, and still using it till this day.
It is portable, it is freeware, and it RULES.... FAST EASY and RELIABLE..... stop complaining about it
I use a tool to remove duplicate files like images, songs and files etc, using a tool called duplicate Finder from Ashisoft, is it tool perform the same work as this tool works on my PC.

Why you are complaining so much all of you? The program does its job quite good.I haven't had a single problem with it.Also the interface is VERY user friendly in my opinion.Even a newbie can get what's going on.

Well, the old version 1.9 was freeware, but the 6 different versions after that havwe been shareware. And yes this one v 3.3 also asks you to register if you want to delete more than 20 duplicate files per day. I do not think nill have more than 20 things to delete once system si cleaned up nice, so it will suite my purpose as is.
