I've been working on a shot requiring me to isolate my subject from the green screen behind him. I chose to go with Rotobrush over keying the subject. I used the refine edge tool as well. In the middle of me finalizing this shot, my AE crashes on me giving me multiple error messages including "After Effects warning: Cant use the Roto Brush tool because the "Paint" effect plugin is missing. You may need to reinstall." Im very confused because I hadnt messed with any settings beforehand, I'm not using a third party plug in or anything, Roto brush was working fine, and then it just happened in the middle of me editing the shot. I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice now. I cant even open After Effects (Beta) or even open a project, the message shows up as soon as AE shows the startup screen. Help!

Welcome to the community. I'm sorry to hear about this. Do you only see this issue with a specific project file? Could you open the Creative Cloud App, hold down Ctrl + Shift + Alt, launch After Effects, and select the Manage Plugins option? In the Effect Manager window, uncheck the "Only Show Third-Party Effects" option and check if there are any effects that are disabled. If that doesn't work for you, please follow the steps mentioned in this post: -effects-discussions/how-to-troubleshoot-startup-issues-in-after.... Let us know how it goes.

Hi!! I REALLY need someone's help. I recently got after effects on my new laptop as well as the sapphire plugin and oftentimes when using s_shake or s_flicker I get this pop up reading, "after effects can't continue s_shake plugin generated an unexpected exception." How can I fix this? I uninstalled sapphire and installed it again but the same issue occurs. It does not happen right when I add these effects but in a more random and unpredictable manner rather. And at the same time my after effects does not respond

Hi. I also am encountering this issue and it specifically happens in After Effects CC 2021. It doesnt crash straight away, but after about 20 minutes of editing, if you make even the slightest change to the project, you will have a circling cursor and the software will crash saying "s_(any sapphire plugin) created an unexpected exception". I have tried completely uninstalling (even deleting the registry) and re-installing both After Effects and all the plugins including sapphire, it works for about 2-3 hours but then out of nowhere it freezes again, and each time it happens the frequency of getting the error seems to be shrinking. And yes, i have tried installing different versions After Effects CC 2021, but this error seems to be happening on every version. I would like to know if there is any solution

Actually I solved that problem with turning multi-frame rendering off. But it becomes really annoying because without CPU, RAM can do anything. I stopped to use that s_shake and flicker. I was using them for create bass shake but it is possible to creat it with twitch and s_blurmocurves.

hello. i just kept multi rendering off now. i dont really feel that much of a difference and most of the ppl i know keep it off as well. not to say this is the end all be all solution but its just what i did.

i downloaded every version of borix sapphire plugin, that latest version of 2024 gave me red screen whereever and whenever i used the s_effects of the plugin, and the every version of 2023 2022 2021, they kept crashing my after effects whenever opened any if my project file which had s_shake s_blur or effect from the plugin, it just sucks, i have no idea what to do , first i was not sure why it was happening to me , so i deleted the after effects and downloaded other versions and the same happenend still, so after that i thought i might be because of red gaint plugin , or magic bullet look or magin suite , i deleted them all and still the same thing happened to me, so at last , i deleted the sapphire plugin and everything worked fine for me, i was able to open those project files, but when i thought i mightr have to use other versions of the plugin , download and tried every version and it crashed every single time

Take your After Effects work to the next level with these free plugins, scripts, and presets. We gathered a gigantic list of the best After Effects freebies that can enhance your visuals and optimize your workflow. Each is complete with download links and video tutorials!

FX Console is a free plugin that helps you speed up your workflow in After Effects. It effectively works like a pop-up search bar that allows you to apply effects quickly, presets, screenshots, and more.

Displacer Pro is a juiced-up displacement effect far superior to the default displacement effects included in After Effects. It has displacement options for scale, rotation, chromatic aberration, anti-aliasing, etc.

Dojo Glitch from Creative Dojo helps give you complete control over realistic glitches and artifacts on your footage. You can easily control settings like glitch intensity, RGB separation, flicker, lens distortion, and more.

AEJuice GIF is a plugin that allows you to export GIFs from After Effects in one click. This free plugin dramatically speeds up exporting your own GIF animations, which was previously a tedious process.

Squash & Stretch is a free tool from mamoworld that allows you to apply handcrafted squash and stretch behaviors to your animations. This can help you quickly create some dynamic and fun animations in no time!

Duik Bassel is a comprehensive 2D animation and rigging toolset. Covering everything from animation controllers to bones, to managing keyframes and automation. This plugin is definitely geared towards animation professionals.

Label Maker is a free plugin that scans the colors of your layers in After Effects and then automatically matches their layer label color. This can help make your layers easier to identify in a composition.

Easy Bounce Free makes creating bounce animations . . . easy! Just roughly keyframe out the bounce animation you want, and then the Easy Bounce script will calculate all of the physics and timing for you.

Sure Target 2 is a plugin that makes animating the After Effects camera incredibly easy. You just set your 3D layers as targets, then keyframe when you want the camera to jump from one target to another.

VC Reflect is a free plugin that makes it easy to create reflections on your layers in After Effects. It includes a ton of options for customizing the look of your reflections, such as reflection angle, falloff, skew, and blur.

Bendy Nulls is a handy script that will apply a global CC Bend It effect to a selected layer. This makes it perfect for easy bend animations in After Effects and removes a lot of the pain points of the default CC Bent It effect.

I am a baby coder, but I've been trying to figure out if it would be possible to build a plugin version of Processing that would render to a layer in another motion graphics or compositing application, and if so, what would this entail? I've never developed an AE plugin, but I do want to learn how. (I have a couple of much simpler ideas to start out with ;-)

I know AE plugins are in C++, so assume you'd have to embed a JVM or an HTML5 canvas, figure out a way to sync the frame-rate, and pass whatever variables you needed back and forth. From the googling I've done and colleagues I've spoken to, I'm unclear whether there is some technical barrier that would prevent this from ever working. There are plugins like Element 3D that have their own very elaborate, self contained renderers built in, so it seems like there should be a way. I use After Effects the most, but if it's easier to accomplish in another system like Natron or Fusion, then that's great too.

I think it would be fantastically useful not just for exporting sketches, but for building all kinds of interesting elements that could interact dynamically with motion graphics or visual effects workflows.

I'm not sure about plugins, but I can think of two general sets of approaches to integrating Processing with larger graphics frameworks. Not the same as an encapsulated Processing-in-a-plugin, but still:

One is a custom visual patch system with interfaces for pipelines (often an emphasis on live-ness). VDMX did this with Quartz patches, and PraxisLive does this with Processing patches. You might feed Praxis Live into AfterEffects.

Jake Bartlett (School of Motion Contributor and Skillshare Instructor) put together this easy to use preset for After Effects that gives you full control over a tapered stroke with the click of a button, and we're giving it to you for free. Just sign in at the bottom of this page to download the preset and you'll be ready to taper those strokes!

Hey, this is Jake Bartlett for school of motion. And today I'm extremely excited to be walking you through the free to download tapered stroke preset. You might've already seen the two-part lesson that I have on school of motion, where I show you how to code this rig from scratch using expressions. But this preset takes all of the work out of the equation and puts it all into a nice little package with compact controls. That's super easy to use to download the preset. All you have to do is sign up for a free school of motion student account, and that'll give you access to not only this preset, but all of the other lessons, project files, plus a whole ton of other great stuff. So make sure that you go sign up for that free student account. Once you have the preset, you'll need to install it.

I have mine right here on the desktop, so I'm going to copy it. And the way I like to install presets is just to come into after effects, open up the animation presets and go to any existing preset, click on it, and then go to this menu and come down to reveal and finder. And that'll automatically take you to the presets folder for the version of after effects that you have open. I'll just go to the root preset folder and paste. Then I'll come back to after effects and go to that same menu and say, refresh list after effects will refresh. And then inside my animation presets, we have the tapered stroke. All you have to do to use it is make sure that you don't have any layer selected and DoubleClick. And just like that, we have a single shape layer, tapered stroke with a bunch of really powerful controls.
