Hi all!

I was once again impressed by the resiliance and spirit of our HIDO HR
crew, who not only trekked out on a busy, midtermweek monday night to wax
human rights, but did so in the stairwell of Grays West. (if you weren't
there - you didn't get to enjoy our introduction to our new favourite
meeting place ever.... definitely gotta be grays stairs from now on...
JUST JOKING! That's what happens when you're in Ticknor Lounge past 10pm
... they kick you out! ;)

Anyway -

The news about the Panel is not only Good, but GREAT. I'm not going to
repeat the history of how we transitioned from our academic panel to this
amazing new debate that we are cosponsoring, because it will take too long
via email, but the jist of the turn of events is:

- We are co-sponsoring a debate between Philip Heymann (one of the
terrorism proposal authors) and KEN ROTH (Huamn Rights Watch President who
currently resides in ENGLAND!)

- This debate was originally being put on by just the Harvard Law School
Forum, but JULIETTE KAYYEM told us about the event so we asked to
co-sponsor.

- the event will be moderated by MICHAEL IGNATIEFF

- Our main task now is *publicity*! The debate will be held mid-april (KEN
ROTH still needs to confirm since he's flying over from england for the
debate!) Also - the Law School Forum need to tell me how much media they
are planning on having at the debate.

-In conclusion - this debate will be *great* because it will be extremely
professional and will accomplish more of our original goals than the
academic panel we were going to hold would have. JULIETTE KAYYEM will not
be in the debate, however she wouldn't have done our panel either - she
just doesn't want to be involved any more with panels/debates, etc on the
issue.

Hurrah!

2) We have chosen to go forward with 2 new projects, one in Ciudad
Juarez, Mexico, and one in Peru with an NGO called Paz y Esperanza. Laura
Pickard is heading the Juarez project, which will focus mainly on research
and grant-writing. Gaby will head the Paz y Esperanza project.

Gaby and Laura are both going to send me detailed descriptions of the
projects and what is involved, which I will forward to the list once I get
them, so stay tuned for this hot new items! :)

3) PROTEST! :) Senior Gift Plus will be holding a protest on APRIL 4th
(time TBD) because the Corporate Committee on Shareholder Responsibilities
(who control Harvard's investment in Petrochina, a company directly
funding the genocide in Sudan) will be visiting campus that day. More
details to come on this as well!

4) You are all awesome! Thank you for making HIDO HR kick ass!!! :)

Love

Aidan
