of my fellow students helped to organize a nationwide demonstration that almost
overthrew the military government. As millions of people marched on the
streets, the military regime opened fire on me and my fellow students. Up to
10,000 people were murdered in a matter of weeks, including students, women and
infant children."

and present revolutionary, speak about the democracy movement in Burma
(Myanmar).

Aung Din, a prominent student leader of the 1988 protests against the Burmese
military junta, was jailed and tortured by the regime for 5 years before he
escaped to the Burma-Thai border. He is now head of the US Campaign for Burma
in Washington DC.
