Hello HIDO HR!

I hope that everyone's summer has been fun and relaxing so far - I know
that there are a number of people on this list that are out in Zambia,
Nigeria, etc right now, and I want to say GOOD LUCK and STAY SAFE to all
of you! (To those of you in NYC or L.A. - good luck and stay safe to you
too ;)

Anyway - HIDO will be moving towards building stronger partnerships with
STUDENT-RUN NGOs this upcoming year, rather than suffering frustrations
working with larger-scale NGOs (which can be kind of... shall we say...
flaky? ;)

This year, one of the groups we will be working with will be the "Burma
Action Movement," which works to raise awareness on campus and consolidate
funds and support for the various freedom and human rights movements in
Burma. This year, we will have an on-site Harvard student, Ohnmar Kin, who
will be working on the Burma-Thai border, to oversee that any projects we
take on in Burma are being handled properly on the ground.

I am looking for 1 or 2 individuals to take on the Burma project and act
as the representatives of the Burma interest in HIDO HR. The Burma Action
Movement is already a pre-existing group at Harvard, started by Ohnmar.
Ohnmar's group has established ties with a number of well-established
NGOs, which are willing to help out by providing some funding and helping
to garner music stars for a benefit concert for Burmese Human Rights
projects, later on in 2005.

Please email me back as soon as possible, if you are interested in taking
on this project. A LOT of the work has already been done for you - and you
would be picking up where Ohnmar left off, which is a v.comfy position if
you ask me! There is, of course, still much work to be done for Burma and
if you are interested in REALLY making a difference with your own
initiative in HIDO HR, this is a great project for YOU!

Hope to hear from many of you soon!

Aidan
