I have been going to these USSF Report Back Planning Meeting.  This is broader than just me, so if folks would like to begin to meet some people I am  building alliances with or what happens at these meetings, please feel free to come and observe.  Also, the meeting mentioned for Saturday is important, because it is a good opportunity to strengthen our solidarity work with key organizations, if not all.

TODAY - 5:30pm - NW USSF Planning Meeting with larger contingent See notes and details below in Cindy Domingo's email

SATURDAY - 3:00-7:00pm @Washington Hall- NW USSF WORKING MEETING - (see notes below) This is a meeting for various delegates that attended the USSF from the NW and others that wanted to go, but were not able.  This meeting will be like a strategic planning meeting including a mapping process to build alliances, plan the USSF Report Back so that is matches the needs of the community here, and maybe begin visioning what a NW USSF might look like.  The Report Back itself was canceled, because of

Subject: Next meeting Monday - September 20 at 5:30 pm - CCEJ Offices/Minutes of last meeting
To: USSF-NW <uss...@gmail.com>

Next Meeting is on Monday, September 20 at 5:30 p.m.
CCEJ Offices, 18th & Madison

Minutes from last meeting on Monday, September 13

Since it had been some time since our last meeting and we had new people, we went around and introduced ourselves and took a few minutes each to talk about some of the work we have been and are doing.  A few people spoke about the recent shooting of John Williams, Native American carver and the peoples' actions in response.

The group revisited the report back/moving forward discussion that was scheduled for Saturday, September 25 and what we wanted to do.

There was a lot of discussion about turning the Saturday event into a strategic planning process on how to bring the social forum process to our area.  The main people that come to the meetings are from Seattle and so we can't really say that we are building the process in the northwest yet in a substantial way.  We have made a few inroads with Bellingham, Olympia and Tacoma but they are not consolidated or expansive.  We need to get peoples' commitment to doing this work long term but in order to do that we need to have people understand what the social forum process is, what are our points of unity and whether or not we are prepared to make a long term commitment towards building strategic ties amongs us as individuals and organizations.

Therefore, we will use the Saturday, Sept 25 date as a working meeting to do strategic planning including a mapping process of which organizations are we going to build this movement with in starting with Washington State.  We will invite those that went to the social forum in Detroit and those that couldn't but want to do the hard work in building the social forum process long term.

If this sounds like you, come to the next meeting on Monday and help us plan.  It's hard work but building a movement is really hard work and takes a long time!

In the meantime, if you are interested, take a look at the program booklet that you got from the Detroit social forum or go on the website and review the points of unity.

If you were at last Monday's meeting and I forgot something or you want to add something to this discussion, please do so as I only briefly tried to sum up our 2+ hour meeting.

Cindy
