To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter to ask for donations to support youth organizers from Seattle, WA heading to Detroit, MI for the United States Social Forum (USSF) – www.ussf2010.org . In a grassroots effort, we were able to support 7 youth and 3 adult youth workers with their registration, housing, food, and transportation. We still need to raise a little over $1, 500 to cover the cost of food and pay off transportation costs. All of our fundraising efforts were lead by youth organizers--they organized open mics, art auctions, did personal asks to funders, and more. They are still in the process of fundraising and ready to organize more events upon their return.
About the Forum:
Activists from all over the country are gathering to share stories and build a massive movement across many lines which divided us in the past. The 206 delegation will bring the puzzles we face in Seattle to the table in Detroit and talk about how they relate to other cities, so we can bring back knowledge and justice from all over the US! Our contingent is part of the NW Regional Contingent, but represents the youth sector called “Seattle Youth Alliance” (aka SeaYA!). Each individual in SeaYA does amazing work within the community. Through this contingent we are connecting issues across movements and understanding how they intersect within the lives of youth and young people. How can you help?
