As you may know, AMIA’s Health Informatics Building Blocks (HIBBs)
project kicked off earlier this year. This project seeks to build
informatics workforce capacity in resource-constrained environments to
plan, develop, manage, use, and provide training on health information
communications technology (HICT) applications, with the goal of
improving the delivery of health care. With an initial focus on sub-
Saharan Africa (SSA), the project works with local partners to
develop, implement, and evaluate training resources appropriate for
distance learning on HICT topics. HIBB modules are intended to be used
to train individuals who: 1) plan and implement HICT systems and make
policy decisions about such systems; 2) use HICT applications to
provide health care and/or public health services and manage data to
improve delivery of these services; and 3) develop and manage HICT
applications and infrastructures for organizations. The HIBBs project
is managed by AMIA and its Global Health Informatics Partnership, with
financial support from the Rockefeller Foundation.
Financial support for Medinfo participants. The project will present
three prototype HIBB modules at Medinfo 2010, in Cape Town, South
Africa, September 12-15. The HIBBs project is offering financial
support to assist approximately eight individuals from sub-Saharan
Africa to attend the conference; these individuals will be asked to
provide feedback on the prototypes during a two-hour session on
Sunday, September 12, in the afternoon. We have posted two documents
that further describe this effort on the HIBBs Implementors Google
Site: 1) Announcement with specifics about the financial support
including eligibility criteria and application process; 2) Application
Form (provided in pdf and Word formats) to be submitted by June 23,
2010.
Please share these documents with colleagues working in sub-Saharan
Africa who you think would be interested in applying or may know of
individuals who are eligible.
Thank you for helping us spread the word about the HIBBs project’s
financial support for Medinfo participants. If you have questions
about this opportunity or about HIBBs, please send an email to
HI...@amia.org. We look forward to updating you on the project’s
progress in the future.
Sincerely,
Ted Shortliffe
