I have a podcast that appears in the File Manager App and also in HI-Fi Cast's Local Files section, but even after a Refresh it refuses to appear in the Podcast list for This Device.

Any clues?

Is it in your Podcasts folder?

The reason I asked is because (as far as I can tell) the only criteria that the Android Media Scanner uses to decide if a music file is a podcast is if it is in a folder named Podcasts (case is ignored but the trailing s is required).

I can assure you that this file is in the Podcast folder as previous podcasts in the series have had not experienced this problem.

Just an update on this. If I select Local Files and then go to the Podcast folder I can then issue SCAN from the threedot menu. and the podcast appears in the This Device podcast list.

UPDATE

Another podcast from a different series did not appear in the Podcast list for This Device. So I deleted the Podcast folder and created a new one. Then put the podcasts back in to it. Now the whole Podcast folder is missing from the This Device podcast list. I should add that the Podcast folder is on an SD card. Using Android 7.1.1 on a Samsung Galaxy Tablet model SM-T350

FURTHER UPDATE
I just installed another app to play Podcasts (AudioAnchor) and this one sees all podcasts and works well.

So my question is what is Hi-Fi Cast not doing?

Yet Another UPDATE

I rebooted my tablet and started up HI-Fi Cast. The podcasts are now showing up. BUT there are no images associated with them. AudioAnchor has no problem displaying the images.

So my question is still what is Hi-Fi Cast not doing?

Hi-Fi Cast is not building its own database of the media on your device. Instead it uses the media database that is managed by Android itself. Unfortunately the Android media scanner doesn't always detect new media - and apparently it also struggles with images in podcasts!

Presumably AudioAnchor is doing its own media scanning - and doing a better job than the Android media scanner.

I can confirm that AudioAnchor asks for the folder that the podcasts are in. So I assume that it does not use the Android media scanner.
Hopefully as the developer of an app that uses this Google service you have reported that there are bugs in the media scanner and that Google are working on a fix.

If anyone else is having this problem I have a solution. The flaw is in the Android Media Services. You need to download an app called Rescan SD Card and select the SD card folder you want to rescan and it will rebuild the database. Then "refresh" Hi-Fi Cast so it can read the rebuilt database.
