I don't have any immediate plans for this but it's on my to-do list so hopefully it will get implemented - I'm just not sure when.

Hope the plan pushes through. My HDD is currently connected to my router that only supports SMB share. Thanks to the developer for this awesome app.

It would be a very good idea. With SMB implemented I could bypass my multimedia server (Twonky) and directly read from the NAS.

Please, make samba access. It is very important and essential thing.

My music placed on windows pc's and NASes without upnp. It is very comfortable to stream music to the stationary audio system, but without smb network it is become too difficult.

Just wanted to add my interest in this feature being added too if possible.

I have my music stored on an SD Card in the tablet that I use Hi-Fi cast on, but my music is also stored on an external drive which is plugged into my router via USB.  The router doesn't support DLNA, so SMB1 is the only way to go when trying to access it.

If Hi-Fi cast supported SMB1 access, I could use it from other tablets and phones aswell!

Would be great if SMB1 access was added.  I wait with baited breath!

Bump. Loving the app enough to pay for it, but - now that I have a NAS-type setup - it would really be great if I didn't have to run an (open) UPnP server in parallel to my (account-managed) SMB server.

The app itself wouldn't even have to handle SMB/CIFS protocol, it would already be sufficient for HiFi-Cast to employ the Android Storage Access Framework to handle LOCAL, and then have another app that pulls in SMB (e.g. wa2c/cifs-documents-provider) - would open up a few other use cases beyond SMB also I imagine.
