I have my phone on one subnet, my chromecast on a second subnet, and my NAS on a third. I can't find the NAS through  the UPNP/DLNA. is there an option somewhere that will allow me to input the IP address of the NAS server manually?

Thanks
Max

I would also strongly welcome a possibility to manually add a dlna server for situations where broadcast detection isn't possible. For example I have provided internet access to my music library via a reverse proxy. But in order to access my music library I need to put in an URL manually. Should not be too complicated to add this feature, shouln't it?

Unfortunately it's not that simple. Firstly, the app needs to know the URL of the device descriptor (not just the IP address) to connect to the server. Also, the server constructs URLs for each resource that the app needs to access and I assume the IP address in these URLs would need to be mapped to/from the origin and proxy server addresses in the UPnP requests and responses.

:(

If (from a Windows PC) you look at the "Network" view in file manager you can see icons for the DLNA devices on the network.  If you select properties, it shows the device identifier and webpage.  So, armed with that, would it be possible to manually input the information?

All the best, love the app and (Much) happier New Year!WXC-50.jpg

If the 'Device Webpage' is the URL of the UPnP device description (an XML document that describes the device and the services it provides) then yes it can be entered into Hi-Fi Cast like so:
  • Go to the Playback Devices screen
  • Tap the 3-dot menu at the top-right of the screen
  • Tap 'Add UPnP Renderer' (ignore the fact that it says 'Renderer'. It also applies to servers)
  • Enter the URL
  • Exit out of there and go into the Music Sources screen and see if the device appears. If it doesn't then it hasn't worked. Unfortunately there's no error messages or any other feedback to help work out why :)
However I doubt if this will work when trying to access the server from outside the home network because the URLs generated by the server will contain the server's local network IP address which is probably not visible from outside the network.

Thanks for sharing though. That could be a convenient way of finding the description URL.

Cheers,
Brett
