I started using Hi-Fi Cast today and it's great so far except for one massive problem...

I can only search for albums/tracks etc if they are on my android phone.

When I search for albums on my Synology NAS (either via Asset UPNP or Synology's own media server) I get no results.

I previously tried Bubble UPNP and the search worked through both servers - so I know they "allow" it.

Am I doing something wrong? (I'm on the trial version)

Thanks!

John

Weirdly this now seems to be working (brilliantly!) for Asset UPnP on my Synology NAS, but not for the NAS built-in Media Server.  For that I'm getting a message "Your media server does not support searching".  That's a bit off considering I can search it using Synology's DS audio and Bubble UPnP.  Does anyone know why Hi-Fi Cast is reacting differently to those others?

Hi,
As part of the UPnP protocol, the server indicates to the control point its searching capabilities. I assume the Synology server is incorrectly indicating that it doesn't support searching but Bubble is ignoring that and allows you to search anyway. I'll might an add an option in the next version of the app to allow searching even if the server is indicating that searching is not supported :)

That would make sense - and it would be a great extra feature, thank you!

This is so much easier to use than Bubble.  The interface and options are much more intuitive and its far more responsive.  I definitely prefer it and have just upgraded to the full version.

Slightly off topic, the only other feature that I loved from Bubble was its ability to download tracks directly from my media servers into the music folder on my phone for local playback.  Could this be a potential feature for the future too?

Thanks again!

John

I realise this is an old thread by I have just started using Hi-Fi Cast with a Synology NAS. I am finding that search is not available and even using the option to force search returns Action Failed (501).
I have tried enabling Universal Search on the NAS and it appears to work when I'm in the DSM desktop. But still no joy from the app.

Any thoughts?

Hi.

I don't think the default media server on the Synology NAS supports UPnP/DLNA search.
MinimServer is available for some Synology NAS models and does support UPnP/DLNA search.
