I hope National Poetry Month filled your days with joy and verse. The Academy staff was perpetually busy during April: presenting readings, sending National Poetry Month posters, selecting great poems to hand out on national Poem in Your Pocket Day, and, perhaps most importantly, coding poems for upcoming Poem-A-Day emails.
Last year, we heard such wonderful things from our subscribers about how much you enjoy Poem-A-Day, and so many of you were generous enough to donate money to keep them coming for seventy-five days, in honor of our seventy-fifth birthday.
This year I have exciting news to share with you. We were so overwhelmed by the outpouring of gratitude for the extra Poem-A-Day emails last year that we have been working for months to take it up a notch: we are on the verge of a yearlong Poem-A-Day program.
We just need a little financial nudge to push us over the top, and we will be able to extend our April Poem-A-Day emails through the entire year—a new poem in your inbox every single day. I hope you are as excited about this project as we are.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 by the end of May. If you can spare $10, $25, or even $100, it would help us to make this happen. And anyone who donates $25 or more will also receive a copy of our new, unreleased CD, Song of the Open Road, a compilation of poems written about and for travelers. Traverse the landscape of American poetry with this audio companion, whether you're hitting the asphalt this summer or enjoying the season from home.
So please, if you are in a position to do so, donate today to help us extend the reach of Poem-A-Day—sending free poetry emails to anyone who wants them—well beyond April. It's time for everyone to enjoy poetry way beyond National Poetry Month.
