Remy, what a great reason not to be able to make a meeting.

Tim, at this point, I'm not even sure that there will be a meeting for
this month as my speakers are cancelling. Would it be more useful to
run another "hacker" meeting for folks interested in working on this
project and then do a demo at next month's meeting (which will
hopefully have many more journalists)?

Matt,

After further review of what I have done, and what I would like to do, and the hours left to do it in ... I think it would be a bit of a disappointment if I were to present everything on Wednesday.  I think your idea of a hack-a-thon is a great one, I could definitely use  the help on some of the back end stuff.

What are your thoughts?

Matt,

I may take back my previous statement of not being able to present something.  I got determined and was able to bang out some more code.  I currently have in place a front end app that will allow for:

- registering
- admin approval
- display current webwatchers
- enable/disable webwatchers
- delete webwatchers

I also wrote a google chrome extension that allows you to add new URL's to watch (and populates the text box with the current URL for you!).

Right now, we are in a position where someone can come in and write a simple python app to handle the remainder of tasks.  Here are the requirements:

- single application
- takes in:
    *frequency as an integer (0:"hour":, 1:"6 hours", 2:"12 hours", 3:"24 hours", 4:"week", 5:"two weeks",6:"month")
- queries the database every x time period (corresponding to the above frequency input) and pulls all entrees that have that corresponding frequency
- pulls down current url contents
- checks against previous
- check for existence of keyword (if there is one)
- identify contact type
- send out email/tweet/sms if applicable

I think we can bang through getting this thing written in a few hours with out a problem.  I am very excited to move forward with this, and I think this is exactly the wow factor we were looking for.

I can do something this Wednesday, but not next Wednesday.

And as the opposite of Chris, I'm available next Wednesday, but not
this Wednesday. But given I'm more of the UI type, I'm not "mission
critical."

To let everyone know, I'm about to send out an email cancelling this
month's (May) meeting. We will be meeting next Month (possibly at a
special location) and I'd love to premier the ap there (or at least
give a demonstration).

Do you think this is doable?

To be clear, rather than cancel, I'd like to have a hacking meeting.
If people were counting on meeting tomorrow and are still able to
attend and hack, then there should at least be an informal meeting
tomorrow night. Otherwise, we can do an "official" hacking meeting
next week (I realize that Chris H can't attend).

Tim, could you make a hacking meeting next week?

That's fine Matt. Will give me time to get more of the back end done,
as well as hopefully get more hackers interested.
