十誡中要求，神的子民要「孝敬父母」。中文聖經用了「孝敬」去翻譯希伯來文「כַּבֵּד」。英文聖經用了「Honor」來翻譯這個意思。
一向以來，「孝敬」是中國文化儒家思想很重要的一部分，建立了第一人倫關係的基本法則。「孝」從老省，從子，意思是孩子（及晚輩）愛護父母、利雙親、盡心奉養父母、服從父母、遵從父母意志。聖經中的「כַּבֵּד」意思更進一步，為人子女的要去孝順父母的同時，也要讓雙親得榮耀，就好像要神的子民學習去愛、去服從、去遵從、去榮耀我們在天上的父一樣。
今天，如果我們還有這個「孝敬父母」機會，我們有否讓雙親得「榮耀」嗎？

* The verb כַּבֵּד (kabbed) is a Piel imperative; it calls for people to give their parents the respect and honor that is appropriate for them. It could be paraphrased to say, give them the weight of authority that they deserve. Next to God, parents were to be highly valued, cared for, and respected.
