Please join us for this weeks His Net round table discussion, conditions permitting.  We'll be meeting on 3802kHz +/-5kHz for QRM at 7AM ET, 6AM CT, 5AM MT, 4AM PT Wednesday morning.  We'll move to 7285kHz +/-5kHz for QRM after 5min if conditions permit or if we're unable to establish contact on 80m.  This dual frequency plan is to insure initial contact without falling back to the phone while giving us the option to use the best frequency.  Looking forward to hearing you there.

The long awaited day when Bob joins us on the radio arrived this morning and I'd like to congratulate him one getting his portable RV radio on the air.  The 80m band was okay this morning, although I was the only one who could clearly hear Bob.   Conditions on 40m were not good and we were unable to hear distant stations.  So Bob was clear as a bell at my place, but Dennis couldn't hear either of us.  Check-ins were:

Charley's internet is out.
Radio conditions on 80 meters were fair this morning. Bob was
broadcasting from Colorado Springs. Charley could talk to both Bob and
me but Bob and I were not able to talk to each other. We tried 40 meters
but conditions were poor. Switched back to 80 meters. Conditions started
deteriorating around 6:15 central time as the sun was coming up.

Not very good this morning for the Texas net; hope it is better for us in the morning. I printed out the lesson for today and will plan to participate. I think I left the book back in New Jersey but will listen and try to remember what I read.

'The budget should be balanced, The treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lets we become bankrupt. People must again learn to work instead of living on public assistance.' Cicero, 55BC

QRZ.com said conditions were not that great this morning.  Which book are we talking about and what are you hearing on the Texas net?  I listened a little one morning, but keep forgetting to turn on the radio.

Yes, I also forget to turn it on and get busy with other higher priorities. I just listen to the locations of the different stations. The radio is getting easier to tune the more I use it.

See you at 6PM mountain on the call.

It looked like no one was going to check-in this morning.  Turned out Dennis pressed the wrong button on his radio and couldn't use it until he dug out the manual and did some studying.  Bob overslept and got on the air just as were were about to call is quits.  He wanted to let everyone know his daughters surgery went fine and to thank them for their prayers.  We were not able to get through on 40m, but 80m seemed to be great morning although thunder noise was heard in the background.  Check-ins were:

We might try 20m, but Dennis and I have never been able to make it work
between his place and mine. It's a day/night year round band, so we
don't need to do it during the early morning net. If you'd like to see
how it works, lets arrange a test time when Dennis can be on the radio.
The problem with 20m is you might be crystal clear for the guy 1,200
miles away while your signal's skipping right over the guy 500 miles away.

Brother Charley,

I will get the antenna up today and prepare for tomorrow morning at 7am from New Jersey. Don't expect to hear you but hope so. Do you want to add 20m for the 3rd 5 minute segment in case favorable conditions are present there or just 80/40?

Health update; still have drain tubes and think it will be slower recovery than I first thought. Dr. said I should be able to sail to Key West this fall.

Glad to hear you'll be on the air Bob.  Dennis will be much closer to you, so even if you can't copy me you might have a shot with him.

Might be a good idea to see what we can do on 20m if 40 and 80 don't work.  It's usually a fairly crowded band though and we'll need to find a clear frequency.  Might be better to coordinate our first attempt over the phone.  If successful, we'll need to do some checking around to set up a permanent frequency should we decide to add one to the net.  Will worn you ahead of time, 20m is the worst band for my antenna.

Charley

Hi Charley,

Going to bible study tomorrow and since we are not connectimg, it seems OK to me.  I have started working on the boat electronics and should have the HF radio checked and perhaps working by next Wednesday but surely the one following.

I have the same Icom 706 in the boat (and an Icom M802) with the AT- 140 auto tuner hooked to the backstay. Just have to check it out along with doing numerous other things. May have to try to get a counterpoint worked under the floor.

Lots of electronics, radar, chartplotter, weather, compass, etc to check. Also got the wind vane steering delivered today to the campground, so that will also be installed. Lots to do before the end of October, but think it will be doable

I won't be back at the boat until next Monday so I may not have it ready next week.

God bless and pray all is well

Internet still out and I'm at the library again. Will try to call the
net Wednesday morning at the usual times and frequencies.

Charley,

I'm going to the 7am men's bible study. Working on boat radios and hope to be online soon there. When I experiment and am getting out I will try from the boat at 7am.

Internet was finally repaired at noon today after being out for 12 days.

Check-ins this morning were:

AC7LU Charley
KD0TTF Dennis
KD7MLX Sheila

Band conditions were not very good. I could tell Dennis was on 80m, but
could not understand him. I heard nothing on 40m. Doesn't seem like our
current comm plan is working for us and we need to do some experimenting
to find something that'll work better. Probably daytime on 20 or 40m is
where we need to be looking. Anyone else interested in scheduling an
experiment day where we try to make contact every 2hr?

Charley, Dennis,

I could probably do that depending on when. I will be working in the campground here in New Jersey maybe this Friday for a few days and that is where the trailer with the HI-Q is parked / stored, so it would be easy to check every two hours on that radio. I am working on grounding at the boat and have not finished checking out the radios and auto-tuners yet. Don't know when it will all get done but I'm workin' on it. Eventually I'll try the long wire on the boat with the auto-tuner. You'll know when I get closer. Whenever you decide to try to schedule the new net timing checks, I'll try to make it work.

When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could say I used everything You gave me.

Farming has slowed down. I am available most days except Sundays.

Sounds like Dennis and I have more flexibility than Bob, so I'd propose we take advantage of Bob's Friday opening.  How's a 7AM MDT start time sound to everyone with a net call on odd hours?  I'd propose an initial call on 7850kHz on the hour followed by a 12222kHz call 5 minutes after the hour with everyone sending a comm report back to the group after each attempt.  We might have to adjust this depending on interference issues as the day proceeds.

Charley,

Ok, will do. 9AM EDT 7850khz then 12222 @ 9:05 and then report our experience and then @ 11am, 1pm, 3pm, and 5pm do it again.

Has there been anyone respond from the East coast that I might listen for? If so, I could call for/as relay if necessary.

I'll set the alarms. Please confirm this is accurate.

Hey Dennis (/Charley), I am also a member of ARES here in South Jersey and they sent out a hurricane watch for the new hurricane Mathew coming up the coast, and included several out of band frequencies and I was wondering the protocol about that.

Can you explain that or call me at (856) 200-5883?

Just called a friend and he said we cannot be out of frequency (I think he means for Tx) so maybe it is for listening only? What say you?

Must have been too early.  Meant to say, 7,285kHz and 14,222kHz.

I think your friend is correct. Sorry for my typos and glad they were
caught early.

Charley,

I'm not getting any reading with low power, cw mode @7850, which seems outside the bands, adjusting the radio antenna from top to bottom.

What's up?

We changed the frequencies to 7,285kHz and 14,222kHz, but the appear to be having a net on 7,285kHz.

14230 first @ 11em edt then 7242 @ 5 after?

14230 not very good, noise and only 40 forward with no reflected. Going to 7285, better.
