Was able to copy Dennis great on 7,285 at 11AM MDT. Couldn't hear
Dennis on 14,230kHz or 14,225kHz. Well have to try Bob again in 2 hrs
when the 20m frequency will be 14,225kHz.

Was able to copy Dennis great on 7,285 at 1PM MDT, but no Bob. Could not
hear Bob or Dennis on 14,225kHz, but an Oregon station was booming in here.

14.265 was clear in New Jersey @ 5:15 pm edt  and I could hear both AC7LU, Charley, in Wyoming, and KDOTTF, Dennis, in South Dakota, but turned out to be a dedicated Salvation Army emergency communications frequency to my understanding. Pray the cell towers don't go out.

I've had good communications with Dennis on 7,285kHz from 9AM-3PM, but
we could not contact Bob on the east coast. Late in the day Dennis and
I had weak communications with Bob on the 20m band, but could not
communicate with each other. Does this match everyone else recollection?

If so, what lesson should we draw from this test? Although 80m is not
working for us at the moment, it has in the past so it might be a good
idea to continue the 3,802kHz net at 5AM MT. On the other hand, 40m has
not been working for us at that time. Maybe we should move the 7,285kHz
call to around 9AM MT to have access to what we saw today? What do you
guys think?

At this point, I'd say 20m results are still too tenuous to be included
in the net. Maybe more experimentation and changing band conditions
will lead to future insight into how to make use of this band at some point.

I'll go with your evaluation as I did not take enough log notes. Bands were very busy, probably because of storm. (?)

The test reinforced to me that I don't understand what sky conditions give a good bounce. Just going off QRZ.com is not enough.
I have been watching the http://www.suspicious0bservers.org/ report each day but have not been able to correlate sun conditions with radio. Did notice that solar wind decreased this week as our radio conditions improved. Will keep watching.

Trying different frequencies at different times of the day was a good idea. We should keep doing it until we find a frequency and time that allows all of us to connect.

Charley, Thanks for setting up the test

I believe the frequencies will not be consistent each week with varying conditions. But trying different frequencies sounds reasonable.

You guys are correct about the variability of conditions.  This time of year 40 and 80m usually work the best.  During the summer months it's usually 20 and 40m.  Unfortunately, Dennis and I usually can't make contact on 20m no matter what time of the year it is.  I suspect our signals just skip right over each other, so for us 40m is the common denominator.
