Joy of Giving Week is being celebrated across the India as Daan Utsav with different names in different organisations/cities.
Here, in NIT Trichy we have named it
as HumaNITTy and launched today. Movie screening, Workshops are being
organised as a part of fund raising events.
HumaNITTy- The Joy of Giving Week Celebrations (Oct 2 - Oct 8)
This year marks the 3rd edition of Joy of Giving Week, the ‘the Indian festival of philanthropy’ being celebrated at NIT-T. Social clubs of NIT-T namely Apeksha / SPIRIT-Ed (UG), Pupil for Pupil Committee (PPC)(PG), SEC(DoMS) and Helping Hands (HHNITT) (Research scholars), PSR and FSR have come together to initiate these celebrations. During this week, money, time, resources are spent for people who are in dire need of them.
Our students have planned for a variety of events on each day of the week including annadhanam to destitute in various places of Trichy and visit to orphanages, old age homes etc.
Clothes and other donations: Last year and year before many of you generously donated old clothes for distribution. Starting this year, we thought, we will take a giant step forward and donate NEW CLOTHES to the inmates of Orphanages and Old age homes. We seek your support in this endeavour. Clothes could be Dhoti, Saree, T-Shirts / Shirts (all sizes), Churidhars (all sizes) etc. For the Old age homes and Ashrams, we welcome donations in the form of rice, dal/pulses, Horlicks and the like which could help them in augmenting their meagre resources.
This is an open appeal to all to offer patronage to the activities and donate generously for this noble cause. As small drops make a mighty ocean, a small contribution can make a huge difference in someone’s life.
Please participate whichever way that is convenient; For example, being in-charge of one of the day's event by guiding the student volunteers or driving the clothes collection for your dept or anything else. The choice is entirely yours.
The following is the tentative schedule events for HumaNITTy'14 - NITT's Joy of Giving Week celebrations:
Oct 02(Thurs): Trichy Central Prison visit - HumaNITTy entertains the prison inmates (Song, Dance, Mimicry, Skit etc)
Oct 03 (fri): 1) Morning (7 am - 10 am) - Sarathy Diwas - Thanks giving to bus crew plying via NITT; Venue - in front of campus main gate
2) Evening (4 pm to 6 pm) -Annadaanam to destitute (junction, chathram, CBS areas) (about 500 food packets planned)
Oct 04(Sat): 1) Visits to 2 old age homes near Thuvakudy and distribution of clothes, groceries etc (morning)
2) BHEL KC Club - Awareness creation thru Wishtree (evening)
Oct 05(sun): Gala for Kids - Children from Orphanages and Homes are HumaNITTy's guests at NITT - full day fun events, competition etc
Oct 06(Mon): Visit to Malarchi (Home for mentally challenged children - Sponsors -EEE Association); Annai Ashram; St Antony's old age home
Oct 07(tues): Visit to REC Middle School(Library Books, Plates, Pads, geometry box etc
Oct 08(wed): Visit to Maanavar Illam (Library Books, bags,geometry box etc and Girls Hostel (Infra like mosquito net, wiring etc) (Ganesa area)
Oct 09 (thurs): Visit to Teresa Karunalaya (Books, Grinder, Carrom Board etc) and TV Malai School (Infra like tailoring machine, Mats etc)
Oct 10 (fri): Visit to St Joseph's School, Ayyampatti (Books etc) and Thuvakudi PU school (books and library cup board)
