Hey all!

Can someone who has shopped for kerosene, recommend the cheapest place?

Canadian Tire's price is $20.49 / 10L jug. I haven't priced it at
Irving yet.

If it's much much cheaper to buy a jug and go somewhere to have it
filled, I can do that (but I still need a recommendation of where.)

Carl said: "dont even bother priceing it from irving they are crazy
with their price. cheapest place i found was kent in lower
sackville, the on in halifax doesnt carry it only the sackville
location sells it"

I only needed 10L so I got it from Canadian Tire for $20.49. Piercey's
had the 10L for $24.99 and a 20L drum for less per L, but I didn't need
that much.

*** $2 a litre is about right.

*** Too bad Lovett's was not still in business. They had a selection of
products in big 200-litre drums and one could fill any-sized cans. I used
to buy bulk Varsol from them.

At one time Esso in Woodside sold to consumers, but I think the
smallest might also be 20 litres. Call them anyway and ask for a
bulk-sales retailer list.

When did Kent become separate from Irving?

I Bought mine at an irving related location it was around $37 (w/ tax)
for a 20L yellow pail. Came from the Irving Lubricant distributor.

Yet the dough head that I Used to get my stove oil from won't fill my
20L Gas cans anymore...

Oh yah, Canadian tire can sell it in windshield washer jugs, and this
guy won't fill gas cans... (yellow ones ... so diesel cans)... so i
have to pay almost twice as much...

Anwyay..... sorry about that ;)

Stupid question. Are furnace oil and diesel interchangeable? If so,
the Wilson's in Herring Cove used to sell furnace oil at a pump just
like the car pumps. I think they still sell it. I'd be happy to
check next time I go by, if these products are interchangeable. I
think I recall someone saying in the past that they are
interchangeable.

Pretty much the same. Years ago, when I worked on a farm, we used stove
oil or furnace oil in the tractors. I believe stove oil and diesel were a
bit finer than furnace oil.

Furnace oil has a dye in it to show that (transportation?) taxes have
not been paid on it. If furnace oil is used in a diesel vehicle it can
be detected by this dye. The DOT rarely check but some cars, VW are
one, have a clear section of fuel line under the hood so the color of
the fuel can be checked.
I have a friend working in the furnace repair field. He says it is not
uncommon to see Mercedes Bens diesel cars parked next to an oil tank
with a pump in it.
