This came up in a discussion with Mike some weeks ago. Today I
finally got a chance to try it. The answer is "not very well." It's
way better than a regular propane torch, but it it is iffy on melting
bronze rods. I managed to braze two horseshoe nails together by setting
them on a brick (no "heat sinking" with a brick to suck away the heat.)
However two pieces of 3/8 inch round stock held in a vice, even with
the flame point 6-8 inches from the jaws, lost enough heat that they
wouldn't wick up the brazing rod. Basically it won't braze for anything
practical. Maybe with that MAP-Pro gas it might . . . but it's so
expensive I decided not to buy any.
On the positive side, it will heat up 3/8 inch stock nice and red if
you need to bend it and don't have a forge (or want to get one going.)
It might even heat up bigger stuff to the "easy to bend" point.
I didn't try.
