They were saying on the radio just now - "32 years since Tiananmen
Square" - how do they keep getting away with it?

Because they are a brutal, communist country and there's nothing
the rest of the world is willing to chance doing anything about. We are
not going to engage China (a nuclear power and emerging economic
juggernaut) in a war. Thankfully they are taking over as the next
super-power slowly, and we'll all be dead before they fully call the
shots. The Millennials who hate us boomers (and all older people) can
deal with it.

Do you think we wouldn't be in DEEP SHIT if, say the USA, tried to
stop them? How would that end up? China might be outgunned 1000 to one
with nukes, but it only takes one to hit the USA and it's all over. And
if not the USA, is England or Russia going to say, "Errr . . . Xi
Jinping, you cut that out or else."

The world knows this, and unlike 1939 with Nazi Germany, there
would be no winner. Einstein's prophetic words would come to fruition,
"I don't know exactly what WW 3 will be fought with, but WW 4 will be
fought with stick and rocks." Call me Neville Chamberlain if you like,
but this is not a Sudetenland type of irritation.

Every country has a chance to run things and build an empire for
century or more. It happens to be China's turn just as our star blazes
out on the horizon.

The last strong-hold to protest against Tiananmen Square is in HK. It is suppressed by Communist police. Check the local English news.

Actions announced on Thursday

Biden Blocks 59 Chinese Companies in Amended Trump Order
June 3, 2021, 1:30 PM EDT
President Joe Biden signed an order Thursday amending a ban on U.S. investment in Chinese companies begun under his predecessor, naming 59 firms with ties to China’s military or in the surveillance industry, including Huawei Technologies Co. and the country’s three biggest telecommunications companies.

The ban on new investments will take effect Aug. 2 at 12:01 a.m. in New York, according to administration officials who briefed reporters on condition of anonymity. Investors will have one year to fully divest.

Biden’s order is largely a continuation of a policy issued by former President Donald Trump that was challenged in court and confused investors over the extent of its reach to subsidiaries of blocked companies. Biden’s position on Trump’s order has been closely watched by Wall Street and Capitol Hill, where lawmakers from both parties have called for a strong stance against China over issues ranging from trade to human rights.

Many of the companies in Biden’s order were already on the Trump administration’s list, including the nation’s largest telecoms:
China Mobile Communications Group Co.,
China Unicom Ltd. and
China Telecommunications Corp.

Among the defense companies on Biden’s list are
Aviation Industry Corp. of China, Ltd., which is one of the best known of the Chinese military giants;
China North Industries Group Corp.;
China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation Ltd.; and
China Shipbuilding Industry Co.

Biden’s list also includes
Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co., the developer of surveillance cameras and facial-recognition technology that has helped Chinese authorities roll out “safe city” initiatives in Xinjiang, where ethnic Uyghurs have faced persecution.

Companies on Biden’s list that weren’t covered in Trump’s initial ban include
Zhonghang Electronic Measuring Instruments Co. and
Jiangxi Hongdu Aviation Industry Co.

Others include:
Proven Honour Capital Ltd.;
Proven Glory Capital Ltd.;
Shaanxi Zhongtian Rocket Technology Co.;
Inner Mongolia First Machinery Group Co.;
Changsha Jingjia Microelectronics Co.;
China Avionics Systems Company Ltd.;
China Satellite Communications Co.;
China-based Costar Group Co.;
Fujian Torch Electron Technology Co.; and
Guizhou Space Appliance Co.

I'm with you in my heart, axemen99. However, over the past 40-50
years, China has grown to the point that it being stopped is next to
impossible. They are 2nd to the USA right now in terms of economic
clout. They are building a space station, and they just landed a rover
on Mars. They are slowly increasing their conventional military, and
within a few years, they will be calling the shots in the Pacific.

Biden's actions are to be commended, but I don't think China cares.
Incrementally they have infiltrated the world's economy. A few sanctions
by the LOSER and now by Biden will not hurt them to the extent they will
reverse course.

What would happen to the world's economy if all the "Made in China"
goods disappeared? Please don't get me wrong. I wish everything we
bought and ate was made or grown in North America.

The British Empire ran the world for at least 150 years. The USA,
be it called an empire or any other euphemism, ran the world since 1945
(and arguably for a few decades prior to WW II.) Look back to the Roman
empire and every single one since. Everyone has a go at it and then
fades while another group has a turn. I don't think we (in North
America) can sustain our dominance and high standard of living for much
more than a generation at best.

China will, regrettably for us, be the next superpower. Looking
beyond that, and we won't live to see it happen, China will also
eventually peak and rot away sometime in the next few hundred years. USA
sanctions will not stop their rise. The USA has to try, but I can't see
the items you listed making a dent in China's growth or stopping its
brutal governance.
