As much as I doubt it, this has me intrigued enough to try and catch a
glimpse of Amy's leg. Probably just had them waxed... the lighting in the
studio made one "shine" a little more than the other... did she walk a
little, and was there a noticeable limp or other movement that looked like
it could have been a prosthetic limb?
CBC's suppertime format really sucks, but this question has gained them a
viewer for a couple of nights - you watch Oren, she won't get off her ass
all this week.
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to let you know all of my limbs are fine. Thanks for the
concern. Hope you watch the show anyhow!
Cheers,
Amy Smith

On your final segment tonight you could take the opportunity to mention your
legs, Amy. And don't give a heads up to Peter Coade either - his reaction
to the subject will be priceless! :)

That's good to hear. My aunt has one. She lost a leg in an auto accident
several years ago and, while the prosthetic looks good, it still has a bit
of an odd look at times. Must have been the studio lighting.
I always enjoy the show. Have been for many years and the new format is so
much better than that boring Live At Five. You've really come into your
own as an on-air personality after a bit of rough start.
Best, Oren James
We have some weird people in this group. Probably better for your
disposition of you don't read us very often.

We also provide a lot discussions on topical local subjects. Al. This place
is just another source of opinion, but we do cover a lot of bases. I'd keep
my eye on the place, just for local opinion/colour.
Oh, and a good laugh once in a blue. :)
None weider than you Al.

What makes you think that?
I am the milk of human reason in a sea of crunchy flakes.

You are so confused you got it backwards Al. Its you who is the flake.
Could be Dawn Sloane.
What do her legs look like?

Not too bad, but they make an ass out of themselves.
Lol... I've seen pictures of Sloan, and Amy I've seen live. I'm looking
forward to the leg show tonight though, Rob.
Google alerts FTW ! :-)
Cheers,
John
Bwahahaha!!! A+ !

Hard to say... posted through Google Groups, but the NNTP Posting Host
works out to CBC...

It must have been her - no leg show tonight, though. :-(
ARIN WHOIS for: 159.33.10.92
The NNTP posting IP address resolves to:

A bit, lol. But being forced to watched the CBC news at suppertime during
the Olympic Broadcast, I had a chance to see how Amy (or 'New Girl' as I
called her) was working out. She seems a lot more comfortable now;
confident enough with her on-screen personality to show a little more of her
human side. And I like it.
It doesn't change what I think about the new format though. It still sucks.
> Why then use google groups ? . . .
Probably to avoid the hassle of installing Free Agent... or setting up OE
to make use of the newsgroups. Most people wouldn't know what to enter
for the "news server" field.
I expect in the future that if Usenet doesn't die, it'll be accessed
almost entirely through the Web. I think the same'll happen with email...
no more mail clients, newsreaders, etc... Just fire up the browser and do
everything from there.
db
Not just Googling - she set up an automatic alert. Google sends her
and email when her names shows up in any of the various net places
like news, blogs and so on. I suspect Amy has the same thing set up.
Here's I'll post her name and I bet she'll get an email about it later
today (Amy Smith CBC). Hi Amy!
Why not use Google Groups? It works great and is accessible from
anywhere... no configuration, etc.
I should have added that she possibly doesn't read Usenet at all and
quickly set up a Google news account solely for the purpose of
responding to the specious prosthesis hypothesis. That's my theory
anyway.
You might as well piss into the wind as to hope for that, GAOTU. She's
"always right", lol.
> Why not use Google Groups? It works great and is accessible from
> anywhere... no configuration, etc.
I'll use it if I have to (if I'm out); but as it's designed, it doesn't
really compare to a good newsreader.
The feature most lacking, IMO, is "Go to last post / end of thread." When
you have the 300-, 400-, 500-post threads that we have here, hitting
"Newer >>" 20 times can be a real bother.
The Tree View helps, but it can still be a hassle to find a particular
post.
The other things that are missing are those things that are specific to a
local app -- filters, various reader preferences, and any kind of memory
of which posts you've already read.
db

--------
If you read db's post about using Google Groups as an alternative, he's
right on the money John. Searching for particular posts is a real pain, and
I like to leave a computer knowing where everything was when I left it -
this group, once I'm done here in a couple of minutes (I need a nap) will
have only the posts I haven't responded to left on it, as well as a couple I
might receive a response to as well.
So much easier than sifting through Google.
hmmm-I don't see a reply
Ian
Hmmm no reply yet
Ian
Bagget posts more useful information to this group than you and I put
together, by far. I know my professional interest makes it more useful to m,
particularly but much of what he posts is columns from newspapers and would
be of interest to most people who took the time to read them
Ian
I think thats a likely speculation
Ian
> Lol - sorry whoever you are but it surely isn't Amy Smith -
For the record, I thought this exact same thing. It seems fairly
"convenient" that, in the span of a month or two, two well-known public
figures have made posts to little ol' Hfx.General in reply to threads
about them.
As for the header info, I always thought that such data could be spoofed
or forged, if one was skilled at such things. It's also quite possible
that someone who posts to (or lurks in) this NG could work for CBC, and
decided to make a post masquerading as Amy Smith.
In any event, I still say it is 50/50 whether it was really Amy Smith or
not. I guess only Amy Smith knows for sure!
Here's a discrete way for her to prove it was her... she should close
her newscast tonight with a toothy smile, then blink twice and clasp her
hands, right over left! :)
wmd
>That 'cloud computing' they are talking about ? Not sure I like that

Just check the headers & it'll all be fine!!!!
Amy is a jounalist. It's possible thst she lurks on a regular basis.

If I need his kind of information Ian, there are lots of places I can get
it - this though, isn't the place I want to see it.
Bag face... the man of a thousand identities.
Like I said earlier GAOTU's wasting his time waiting, Ian. She never, ever
does anything wrong. She's "Lucrezia Borgia", some mean old dead lady.
I've been saying that for years - this place brings up and discusses lots of
relevant issues, jimmy, and I know I'd peek in here from time to time if I
was a journalist. If for nothing else, just to get a feel for what's on
people's minds in general.
Sloan returned though... Amy hasn't.
Apparently not, but Dr AJ doesn't look very healthy. She looks pale in
her last few apperances, maybe it's the sudio lighting, but her
colouring doesn't look normal.

---------------------------------------------------
I saw her during the Olympics too, Hools. I thought she looked a little
older, but I didn't notice a difference in her colouring. Maybe CBC just
has shitty lighting?
Too bad they can't figure out that we're talking about them, not to
them. Politicians and news reported, put them in the same pile as sales
people and lawyers. Dirty rotten scumbags, the whole lot of them.
Yeah, I know. But she's definitely improved in the confidence department,
and with her pedigree of 15 years or so of reporting starting to show I can
take her a lot easier now than I could at first. Man she was bad... deer in
the headlights and all that, lol.
I use it for work all the time... we do some controversial projects so
I like to know exactly what people in small towns might be writing
about them before it becomes a bigger issue.

What would you use to trigger it, John? Your name or the subject? I've
known about this for a while, but never knew how it worked.
I'm guessing Colonel Mustard, in the Library, with a candlestick!

Yeah... wish I had your friggin' hair, Rob. That would make all the
difference in the world to my appearance. But no, I'm stuck with this
thinning, greying crap with a hole in the top. :-(
I forgot my hat for two days running now. Talk about Keith Richards (now
I wish he had us monitored).
He's no Amy Smith, LOL. I wear a hat every day too, which generally gives
what's left of my hair "hat head" for the rest of the day. Screw it... I
don't care anymore. I see kids half my age with half the hair I have today,
so I figure I got out pretty easy.
Now that I'm used to wearing one at work, I don't think I could do without
it. Keeps the sweat off my face, and makes me feel like I want to play
baseball, LOL.

Do the head shave and reinvent your look :) On some, it looks tough... On
others, fashionable. It's kind of "in" these days to be shaved.
IIRC, Patrick Stewart did the shave after TNG. Lots of other celebrities
too. And imagine the convenience in the morning!
db
I shave enough now - don't need to add my head to the mix. Plus, I'm sort
of proud of the fact that at 54 I still have hair. When I was a kid, right
up until I was about 12, my mom had me get "brushcuts" -- I've never in my
life wanted to return to those days, db.
> IIRC, Patrick Stewart did the shave after TNG. Lots of other celebrities

The inconvenience of the stubble would bother me too much - I'd have to
shave it every day. Nope, it's not for me. :)
You need to get out more, Donna ;-) <---wink.
Mine's long enough in the back right now I could pull it through as a pony
tail... but I won't 'cause that's really weird!
