Any oldtimers out there remember the Halifax Junior Canadiens? For you
youngsters they were an independent junior hockey team in the mid-sixties
who played a couple of games every weekend against junior teams from
Ontario and Quebec. They were very popular for a while. I remember
watching them at the Forum when fans were three or four deep around the
back row and sitting on the steps. None of the players ever really made
it that I can remember (except maybe Bobby Sheehan) but the games were
great fun. Other names I remember were Leo Bossy (the coach), Ed
Lanthier (goalie), Fraser Rice. Brian O'Burn (not sure about the spelling
on that one). I don't know what these guys had but the fans sure liked
it. Maybe it was the first-rate competition. Lots of OHA teams came
in. I remember Kitchener and Niagara Falls. Anybody else remember anything?

Sure do. You forgot Errol Thompson, a fellow named Cochrane who had
fists as fast as a jackhammer, and the hate between Halifax and St
Catherines. Geez, those where good games. The Junior Mooseheads here
are becoming very popular (best attendance in the League). Also do you
remember the pounding feet of the Cheerleaders?

Cheers!

I know my father Paul Aucoin has a few team photos from when he played for the Junior Canadiens, not sure what year, I would guess somewhere around 1963-66 because he was born in 1946. He went on to become the C for the St. Mary's Huskies. I'll have to ask him more about it!
