Yeah heaven forbid a person could be rated for their ability and not
just their babaliciousness..
But that's whole different issue on the "Naked News at 5"
>talk about beauty and the beast...
Or about the dumb blonde that is a brunette!

Yes I will give you that

See remark re dumb blonde

Everyone to their opinion. Some women no doubt think that Mad's Alfred E.
Newman is a handsome dude.
But I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eating crackers!
As has been mentioned she most likely got the job in the first place because
of political connections.
Her sister has done quite well in the acting business and now Nancy will try
to prove to the world that she "can do anything better than you".
In she didn't do all that bad of a job but she has some most annoying
habits;
!. Giggling like a bunch of 13 year old girls at a pyjama party.
2. Looking so stuned a lot of the time. The eyebrows raised with that blank
look.
3. Ever see those little dogs that people put on the back shelf of their
cars whose heads bob up and down? Guess where they came up with the idea for
them?
But then I guees not all of us can be perfect!
Perhaps a hottie but I don't like her as a TV celeb.
She sure came "up the ladder fast" since she was a junior reporter in Sydney
less than a year ago. Makes one think! It's not who you know it's who you
....
- Rick.
Good god, no. You mean "rip and read" Mairianna? She is pretty awful when
it comes to reporting a story. If nobody gives her a press release she is
pretty much out of luck. I think Don Henley was thinking of her when he
wrote "Dirty Laundry". ;-)
Of course, I still miss ASN's former lovelies, Cindy Burgess and Joanne
Nugent. There is someone at CBC who is absolutely lovely *and* smart, who
is badly underused: Laurie Graham. Maybe ATV should court her.

A pox on you all. She is good and she moved up fast. In my opinion
she has forty times the brains of Nancy and 100% more going for her.
If she were a man would you be suggesting that he got there because of
who he f----d?

** A high percentage for sure but not 100%.

** Definately if the people in the higher echelons were women. Works both
ways, more than most of us would care to know about.
> Sheena
** That is also possible in today's world, Sheena. But seriously, I
believe she got there on her abilities, not the other. She has a
personality that simply exudes from her through the TV, and as I said, she
really likes her job.
Now, if you want to talk poor broadcasting, you must have seen Elizabeth
"Oh, I hope I get it right this time" Chu do a newscast. Pitiful. And why
not clear braces instead of the metal ones? My God, woman, you're on TV!
But then again, if you can't read a prompter correctly, does it really
matter? Just my opinion...

I agree with you, but we are the minority. His ratings are excellent,
I can never figure it out. No he has not passed on I hate to tell you.
He is there now with some sort of Napoleonic hairdo.
Sheena
Maybe she did get in the door with connections....but she's been there
for 15 years, no one keeps their job for 15 years on connections
unless your parents own the company !! IMO Nancy does a first rate
job, I've never met her but I've been watching ATV for quite some
time...long enough to remember Dave Wright.
Personally, I read the news online. I usually just scan local news because
there is no local good reporting that I can find. I mostly get information
off of CBC. That's no guarantee of great reporting either..but it is
presented a bit more factually. I like visiting their local websites across
the country. I read the local news for BC and Vancouver because my daughter
is there.
It would be nice to have a good home-grown local news program.

I don't much care for the six o'clock news style that ATV and Global
offer -- all the local, national, and world news mixed together in one
broadcast. I much preferred MITV's way of doing things: a half hour
of local news followed by a half hour of national and world news.
As a result, if I tune into CTV at all, it's at 11:00pm for the
national news broadcast.

As far as Nancy Regan leaving. Good riddance. May she can be a
permanent fixture at her daddy's future court appearances and giggle
and laugh at the women's testimonies like she did in the past trial.
How he got off is a wonder, no wait..money..oh yes that's why. Anyways
not seeing her on my TV will be a welcome treat. Can't wait till April
4th.

I liked Dave Wright too but then, in those days they did more than a one
and a half minute take on anything, news had not been dumbed down to the
entertainment level.

Yes, I saw that too. I also saw Daddy stop on his way into Court one
morning to chat up a particularly attractive member of the press, until
his lawyer caught up with him and hustled him away.

** Dave was tops. He's responsible for the total revamping of the format
now known as "Live At Five". For some reason, I feel he would be none too
happy with the way the show has evolved. Dave was a newsman first, but
coupled that with a warm, personable approach to subjects both local and
national. I seem to recall the reason he left was health-related. Wasn't
it his heart?

I met Steve a few times (any news guy that eats Bash donairs can't be

good...not too excited about Starr Dobson or that idiot from
BT...Scott Boyd is it ? Some reporters are better than others....I get
a kick out of Dan MaaaaaCIntosh. I trust them which is likely why
Steve Murphy has high ratings, he's a trusted anchor. He may be on the
heals of Lloyd for the national news.

Steve Murphy is NOT 5'2 or 5'3. I've met him and stood beside him.
He's about 5'6 to 5'7.

missing Cindy B., LOL. And he would agree with you about Nancy and Star
too.

Y'know, I would rather see her in the job, than Starr, myself. She has a
really nice on-air presence. I find Starr a little on the bland side.

Ah, Steve is ok - he takes his own dry cleaning in and doesn't need an
'assistant' to handle such mundane chores. And he wrote that book too with all
the profits going to Christmas Daddies and the IWK, at least Steve isn't in love
with himself like that wannabe GQ-type Bruce Frisko.

Funny I find Star a real nice, wholesome person. While she is more "laid

We did have until the powers that be at the CBC f**ked it up but good. I was

opinion panel a few years ago and the CBC adopted all of our suggestions
regarding the supper hour news. After that they had the highest ratings.
After they

I thought that we had a pretty good local news when MITV was around.
I recall anchors like Doug Vaesen(sp?), Laura Lee Langley, and several
that came before them that had a Very local feel... which I liked.
They'd slip up now and then, get into a little banter, always
smiled... didn't have that unattached "corporate professional"
presentation.
On one occasion in 1990/1, my aunt was up from Sydney, and she tuned
in. After the broadcast, almost feeling as though she were welcomed
to Halifax by it, she exclaimed, "What a Nice bunch of people!!"
db
Not so, I've met the guy, he's average, about 5'9"...not that his
height has anything to do with his performance...non-issue. He reads
the freakin' news ...how do you determine that he's arrogant ?
I used to see Cindy at Scotia Square often, after she left ASN /
ATV...I'm wondering if she went right into another job...maybe she
left (took a package type thing)...
Same way the fellows here decided Marianna B. got where she did so fast
on her back???

No, no, no... it was Jill Krop (first hostess of Breakfast Television) who
married Paul. I don't know Cindy's status, but she wasn't married to him.

I think you need to measure your height again. He's not 5'2 or 5'3.
He's much taller.
Supposedly Marianna B worked for Entertainment Tonight before coming
to ATV. Not sure why she left ET or that area but it could explain her
good connections in the bizz. She just needs a voice dubb.
High
I thought Mairianna worked for CJCB in Sydney? A long way from ET. I think
the closest she'd ever come to that was watching Mary Hart and wishing
she was her. As for her "connections", they are the same as any other
entertainment reporter - she is totally dependent on press agents and
movie tours to get any access at all.
As you may have gathered, I don't think she's very good.
No i dont think she's very good but i was watching the show a while
ago after she replaced Todd Batis and she mentioned she worked at ET
in the press room or something.

Aaahhh ok. Got them confused. Did more research, it appears Cindy also
went to look for A-Channel, except the A-Channel in Manitoba, Paul went to
A-Channel news in Edmonton.
