I just moved to Halifax about a month ago and I'm looking for a place
that hosts life drawing sessions.
Thanks,
Stephen
You'll have to clarify (for me at least) what exactly you mean by "life
drawing" sessions.

He wants to leer at naked women while pretending to do charcoal
sketches.

If you mean where can you learn to draw the nude, I would try the Nova
Scotia College of Art and Design continuing education program, they
certainly have life drawing classes. There also used to be ad-hoc life
drawings at the "&" Café on Agricola street - pay what you can to compensate
the model. Not sure if that is still going, but The Coast was where they
advertised. You might check that out too.cheaper, though with no
instruction.

The thing is, there's nothing sexual about life drawing. My Mom has done
many nudes; paintings, sculptures and drawings. They are all about one of
the most recognizable objects in nature; the human form. Mom's work is of
young, old, male, female, thin, large, etc. It doesn't matter. I've done
some life drawing too. The model is just an object and the real
interaction in the process is between artist and medium. The only sensual
part of it is the stroke of the artist's pencil or brush, and in bringing
life to lines on paper.
Cheers,
John
I agree John but "one" almost has to expect some :-) re such a post.
Boys will be boys & some men will be boys too.
Along with the :-) there was good helpful info posted which "is a good
thing".
I can't even draw money out of the bank but I would imagine that to
draw any animal form must be very difficult, especially humans.
What a great gift to be able to put the right expression on a
subject's face.
Even the master works are subject to what some would consider humour.

By the way did you ever notice that The Mona Lisa has no
eyebrows—shaved eyebrows were a fad at the time.
I am so amazied every time I look at a cartoon closely. There are so
few lines drawn on the face and yet one or two strokes tells it all.

Hee-hee. I know. But it's fun to trot out the old stereotypes from
time to time, isn't it?
Yes, just looking for a reference model. Don't really need the
instructions (or the cost of the instructions) anymore.
I'll check them out,
Stephen
