This is from someone's vacation there.

Nice looking place. There are several Youtube videos about it. So
quaint, and away from the noise and fuss of urban life. I can't
understand why anyone would leave there. As Jed Clampett said about
the hills, "A man'd be a dang fool to leave all this."

It's too late to "unleave," but I bet if you sold your house over
the winter and used the money to build a mansion there, you could
be living in the best house in Francois next June. They might have
Internet there.

That would be true if one had no hunger to learn about the
universe and how it works. Otherwise, it is way too limiting.

Not shone in the video, but shown in pictures is a large satellite
dish for TV. I'm sure they have internet too because several years
the school there had a web page. They don't maintain it anymore.
With TV and internet they are well connected to the world. Whether
that is better than total isolation I am unable to judge, but it is
not for me.

Given the "Come on home!" movement in the Maritimes, it might be a
good place to enjoy one's golden years basking in nostalgia. An
intrepid statistician might be able to whip a few standard deviations on
them too!

How do you know? When you left there I bet there wasn't even
electricity. Now, with the Internet and TV, you could distribute your
wisdom via word of mouth and the web.

In your non-science moments, you could take up painting. Lots of
inspiring landscape and seascape. Send a post card! :-)

I don't do that unless asked or if the subject comes up in conversation.
It's only on Usenet that I "distribute my wisdom". :)
