I'm looking into selling my wife's car. Anyone knows where I can find
some kind of template to generate my own bill of sale and covering all the
angle. Also I am selling the car 'AS IS" is there any law in Nova Scotia
that I should be aware of ie; 30 days waranty....
Thanks

Keep a copy for yourself also, a photocopy is fine or have them sign a
second copy.
Also, let DMV know that the car has been sold, and provide them with a
copy of the receipt, you can sign an affidavit stating the car has been
sold.
Umm. Isn't that still covered on the vehicle permit? Look at it and you
should see a section you fill out when you sell the vehicle.
There is no law in Nova Scotia concerning a private vehicle car sale.
All you need to write down in a private sale agreement is (sold as
seen,no warranty/guarantee given or implied) Keep a copy for yourself
and give one to the buyer and both of you put your signature on them.
This is most important. If you don't like the cut of the
buyer's jib you should hand deliver it ASAP.
Until you do the vehicle is still registered in the sellers
name.

There is also a section on the transfer paper.
that is very true.
I haven't done it myself, but I believe you can also surrender your
plates... not sure how the buyer xfers the registration, i assume you
give them the reggi, and they register and get new plates.. .
you may even get some part of your annual registration fee back if you
surrender the plates and the new buyer will have to pick up the rest of
the tab... anyone know about this?
In the case of commercial vehicles if there is more than three months
left in the registration they do issue a pro-rated refund. If there is
less than three months, no refund is issued. It may be the same for
personal vehicle registrations.
tell me about it... sold a car once that had been sitting in my driveway
for a year for parts... made out a handwritten piece of paper "AS IS" and
had it signed by myself, the buyer and a witness.. sold it for $150...
almost 2 years later, had the next day off, was playing xbox live at 3am
and the phone rings... its a cop asking about a car i owned... guess the guy
flipped it and it was still in my name, with an expired plate from some
other province on it to add to the confusion... after a lengthy discussion,
had to fax in the piece of papper which i had luckily kept in a drawer.
moral of the story - drop off the bottom part of the ownership paper
dealing with a sale yourself! and make out a handwritten receipt and keep a
copy!
