It looks as if we're going to get hammered overnight. 20-30 cm
of snow and gusts up to 80 kph. Payback for the relatively mild
winter.

I'm off to prepare the yard, get shovels ready, etc.

I've heard of "shovel-ready" projects but never project-ready shovels. :-)

Do you wax your snow shovels to keep wet snow from sticking to them?

Nope. My father used to do so. In the early 60s and before they had
steel shovels, and sometime around 1965-1970 we got aluminum ones. They
were a miracle! Light as a feather compared to the heavy steel
things. They were religiously polished with wax as soon as the
forecast suggest snow. And put outside for 5-10 minutes to get cold
before we started the shovelling.

What I use now is some kind of "tougher than steel" fake
Nylon. Nothing sticks to them. They will get used later today when the
wind dies down.
