Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a quick / cheap roof vent for my 6ft hexayurt. I've had a
read through some previous posts but didn't find a definitive solution.
I'm not going to build a swamp cooler (maybe next year..), so I either
want to go for something completely passive, or maybe a solar powered vent.
I already have an opposing window / door but want something that'll work
day and night to take the heat down an extra degree or two.
I've read about this
one: http://www.amazon.com/Solar-Roof-vent-Shed-Greenhouse/dp/B00884ZDT8/ref=?ie=UTF8&m=A39TS44LGVW16B,
where some people recommend it but others say its no good. I'm guessing
that it might just work for a 6ft yurt as the internal air volume is fairly
small.
As for passive vents, I realise that the 6ft roof triangle dimensions limit
roof vent options. I've seen a number of vents on 8ft yurts which look
like off-the-shelf numbers from Home Depot.
Can anyone chip in with any experience or advice on this? I'd like
something off-the-shelf or with minimal construction for under $50 if
possible.
Cheers,

My two cents: for my first yurt I spent a fair amount of time fabricating something from furnace filters and sheet metal on top of a Home Depot unit. For my second yurt I just grabbed something off the shelf at Home Depot. Anything that has a hole and will keep the rain out seems to do a good job if you've already got cross ventilation. Especially if you have a swamp cooler, a roof vent doesn't make a lot of difference in my experience.

Sometimes it's not so much what you say, but how you say it. Also, whether you're naked, high on methamphetamines, and standing in an abandoned parking lot at the time.
