Making some progress covering the dome with poly iso board. This is a 2V dome, 17ft in diameter, which is what i typically build because the longest struts are 5ft long.

The insulation board usage was really efficient. I cut the board in thirds (lengthwise) and then cut each of those in diagonal. These pieces were taped together.

To get the triangle to fit in the panel, i first cut about one inch off the top. Then i placed the panel in place on the dome to mark how much of the bottom i need to cut off. This varied from 1.75 inch to just 1 inch.

The PVC pipe is one inch and insulation board is 1inch so it sits flush with the pipe. I make further adjustments by cutting off the bottom corners to get the bottom passwd the hubs. Then i tape it in place.

I plan on making a more detailed video once I complete the dome, but here is a link to a youtube video of just the top as it was covered in the mean time.

Let me know what you think....

If what faces the elements is poly iso, and you are in a climate that gets rain, unless you are beneath protection, you may have a fail.

Poly iso insulation was NOT made to be outside a structure, but between siding & drywalls.

Would love to hear how your project turns out. One hexayurt of which I’m aware, placed outside in Sonoma County, CA, didn’t make it through the winter.

Peace & Health, Hal
