Cody, that's a furnace filter. It's the NaturalAire Eco-pleat furnace
filter. 16 x 25 x 1 I believe, has an FPR 6 rating. 100% post-
consumer content too. I got it at Home Despot.
It's rated up to 90 days, though I imagine that's in a home setting,
not on the playa. I brushed dust out of it several times during the
week on the playa this year. I wouldn't give it much more than a
week's life on the playa. You are right, it was very nice for letting
natural light in, and it did a good job of filtering out playa dust,
which is no small feat (that stuff is unbelievably fine). I only put
one window in this time, which allowed a nice cross breeze IF the door
was open. If you want a cross breeze without having to open the door,
you really need a 2nd window. I may do roof vents or a spinning heat
turbine next time in conjunction with a 2nd window, and maybe swamp
cooler too. We'll see...
Stained glass is a really cool idea come to think of it, though it
would provide a portal for sun/heat to enter directly into the yurt.
I forgot to mention, this is the untested H13 hexayurt I say untested
in a PLAYA context. Yes I did use it at BM this year, but the wind
and temperatures were so mild, that I'd say this year was not a "fair"
year in which to judge the H13's performance, especially with regards
to its stability in high winds, hence it was not a true test. So
unless someone elsewhere says they tested the H13 in a high wind
situation, we're going to have to wait until next year to see how the
H13 truly handles high winds. The concern is how the higher wall
where the door goes, will handle winds as opposed to the i.e. H12.
