In terms of other things to make hexayurts out of: google honeycomb
panel or the more general term, sandwich panel, and you'll see tons
of options from about $50 per board up to about $300 a board.
Aluminium, steel-faced styrofoam, plastic honeycomb... endless
options. I haven't worked too much on those kinds of options because
they're kind of expensive for the refugee set, of course, but they
are out there.
Have you asked Home Depot etc. about special ordering you some 1"

Well, the other approach is to look at cardboards, honeycombs and
similar products, or to call your local Dow rep and have them special
order you some Thermax HD.
I'm really sorry you're having problems with the materials, that's so
strange. Every time I ever wanted to build one I just went to home
depot and they had what I needed.
