With the business plan in mind I want to get a clear picture of the
problems in the catering operation, particularly from the former staff
and CoM.
If anyone prefers not to air in a public forum, please feel free to
email me.
cheers,
Lynn

After having had a brief look at documents given to me last night I am
getting a better insight to the problems, and their causes. However I
will not have time this week to study these, and older, documents.

It was mentioned in another thread that there is a myspace site for
the Club. Having looked at that I have a few other comments as regards
the catering operation:

The meals mentioned are too expensive. To save anyone looking up the
page, I'll give a few examples: Steak and Ale Pie, £4.20; Breaded
Haddock, £4.20; Cauli-Broccoli Cheese, £4.10. There are many good pubs
in the city centre that are cheaper than that, and from what has been
said elsewhere, I suspect these pubs provide better service -
particularly because they are serving to the local workers, who
probably have less than an hour for lunch.

As an example, go to the State Bar in Holland Street. The menu is
short but adequate. IIRC there are two starters, five or so main
courses, a wide range of baked potatoes, a range of sandwiches, and I
can't remember what else. The meals are cheaper than the Club's were.
The portions are generous. Net result - the pub is very busy at lunch
time. (And the beer prices are low - £2.50 for a pint of a cask ale.)

I think some time ago some people had the idea of taking the Club
upmarket. It didn't work. What is needed is a place to get a decent
meal in a short space of time at a reasonable price.

Gladly, we don't have to deal with city centre competitors and Holland
Street is a long way away. I know the State Bar well John, and you
may have noticed that it is very busy with drinkers all day every day,
packed for sport on telly and enjoys a spot directly off the main
Sauchiehall st boozers drag...we really are a completely different
operation from any in the city centre or the west end for that matter.

It was me who brought the myspace page to the groups attention and I
assure you that the menu there was given a great deal of consideration
for the business plan and the development of the new menu.
