Another shot at revival; the Divided States of America. Basically, everyone has a nation that is a successor state of the former United States. Here's your basic options:

The Plutocracy of New York (backed internationally by certain smaller states of Europe)
The Holy State of Deseret Formerly Known As Utah (ruled by Mitt Romney)
The People's Republic of California (Chinese-backed, south-central CA)
The Free State of Las Vegas (sorta like the Free City of Kowloon; controls Nevada, Vegas metro area) (backed by Netherlands)
The Jingoistic States of Texas (includes Oklahoma); mostly north/east Texas
The CSA (no explanation needed)
The Reformed Tribal Territories (southwest, at war with Mexico)
Cascadia (see before)
The North Atlantic Union (backed by Canada and UK)
Kingdom of Hawaii (backed by Australia, New Zealand)
Aleut/Inuit (Nunavut/Alaska/Yukon/NW Territories)
Republic of Florida (south of I-75 corridor, includes corridor) (backed by Cuba, Bahamas, variety of other Caribbean states)
Free State of New Orleans (basically Louisiana; backed by same backers as FL)
Chicago Empire (Rust Belt area)
Great Plains Federation (self-explanatory)
Quebec (French-backed)
Newfoundland & Labrador (part of UK)
Canada (British-backed)
United States of America (rump state; DC+MD+WV+VA)

So pick! I want the rump USA.

I have some ideas for games that are meant to be played by email. If you guys don't like *diplomacy* (it works!- so simple, and it's a great game), you guys might have heard of the Glory of Kings. With rules other than the ultra-subjective "realism" it is tried and tested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Glory_of_Kings

That looks far too complex.

I highly recommend diplomacy. It has easy rules, would not take up the entire day, and does not require even more than one person online at a time. Furthermore the rules are written down and objective. 7 people should not be so difficult to find here. And the time controls could be set to a move a day. A move every 2 days. A move by the next mutually agreed upon date. Whatever.

@Sam. Glory of Kings? I suppose so. There would be the whole learning thing. But that's what makes the game fun. Look at the est part: after the game, AP (or IB) Euro's a cinch.

I fail to see how it applies to modern European economics

Make your case for Blackbeard having a direct affect on European economics since the beginning of 1999. And IB European History begins around French Revolution.

I will not Sam, and you can't make me. I never specified how much it applies. There is no direct impact of the things that happened, but that does not mean there is no application. E.g. the Franco-British rivalry. Must I need to provide proof that there is some relation between the nature of french monarchy, the french revolution, the advent of monarchy overthrow, the new nature of international relations, and present day economics?

Good to know. But you realize that this directly pertains to the french revolution?

Or wait. We could simply appoint someone to be the "realism arbiter", maybe 2-3 people, who's role will be to simply make sure everything stays realistic.

not really, the first and second waves of russians were killed by the finns. however the third wave pretty much bitchslapped them to sleep for there insolence. and then murdered them.

You know why don't we go off of a book called "After America"  Based off of where America's population is dissapeared due to a high energy wave on the eve of 2003.

Sam, your realism idea is one that might work, but I like the prospects of diplomacy more. I'm not saying role playing games like the one Robert suggested are stupid, I'm just saying they're difficult to set up, and time consuming. Reality arbiters would have to partially revoke their right to play, and would quarrel amongst themselves. Let's give Diplomacy a try first. And guys, arguing about Russia is kind of pointless unless you're arguing about getting 4 units instead of 3 (rather than saying one of you is more intrinsically Russian). I suppose though that you're joking?

It isn't a role playing game -_- It is a scenario, where most of North America's population has disapeared due to a high energy electromagnetic wave.

It's colloquially referred to as Austria. But it's technically austria-hungary. I'm not saying you can't call it austria, I'm only saying it's also correct to call it austria-hungary.

PLAYERS AND COUNTRIES
The game of Diplomacy® is best played by seven players. Rules for fewer players are
included in the Alternate Way to Play section of this rulebook on pg. 19. Each player
represents one of the seven “Great Powers of Europe” in the years prior to World War I.
These Great Powers include England, Germany, Russia, Turkey, Italy, France, and Austria-
Hungary (hereafter referred to as Austria). At the start of the game, the players randomly
decide which Great Power each will represent. This is the only element of chance in
the game.
Note: At various places in the rules, the term “country” is used generically to represent
“Great Power.”

Turkey
