Background: While a significant breast cancer burden exists for Korean American immigrant women, their cancer screening behavior is strikingly poor, and few interventions have focused on this population. To promote breast cancer screening behavior in Korean American immigrant women, a mobile phone multimedia messaging intervention (mMammogram) was developed.

Conclusions: Mobile app intervention that is culturally tailored, along with health navigation services, can be a feasible, effective, and acceptable tool to promote breast cancer screening behaviors in underserved immigrant women. A mobile app can cover a broad range of breast cancer health topics and the health navigator can further help women overcome barriers to screening. A health navigation service is critical in overcoming language, transportation, and health accessibility barriers and triggering a positive change in their health screening behavior, especially for newly arrived immigrant populations.

Background: Barriers to cervical cancer screening in young adults include a lack of knowledge and negative perceptions of testing. Evidence shows that mobile technology reduces these barriers; thus, we developed a web app, Game-based Learning Avatar-navigated mobile (GLAm), to educate and motivate cervical cancer screening using the Fogg Behavioral Model as a theoretic guide. Users create avatars to navigate the app, answer short quizzes with education about cervical cancer and screening, watch videos of the screening process, and earn digital trophies.

The slogan of "bijli, sadak, pani" is passé; 'virtual things' like UID number, bank account and mobile phone are the in-thing, says Chairman of Unique Identification Authority of India Nandan M. Nilekani.

The information technology veteran said that in India, the 'model' has changed, from "roti, kapada, makaan" (food, clothing, shelter) in the 1960s and 1970s, to the slogan in the last several years of "bijli, sadak, pani" (electricity, roads, water).

He said "if we can get everyone to have UID number, if we can get everyone to have bank account and if we can get everyone to have mobile phone, then we are giving them tools of opportunity. With that, they can access services, benefits and their rights."

"We have gone from (the earlier slogans) physical things to abstract things (UID number, bank account, mobile phone)," Mr. Nilekani said, adding, though they look abstract, they really are very, very important and "real foundation."

The Public Works PW (R&B) Department has launched a special mobile application Hamari Sadak for dedicated use of general public so as to get direct feedback from them regarding overall condition of roads, snow clearance etc by uploading their grievances on the said web portal.

Adherence to cervical cancer screening guidelines among eligible individuals aged 21-29 years decreased between 2005 and 2016 [1]. Barriers to screening in young adults include lack of knowledge or awareness, negative perceptions of testing, and systemic barriers [2]. Mobile health (mHealth) technology has the potential to improve knowledge outside of the clinical encounter [3-5]. A meta-analysis of various mHealth platforms showed technology was associated with increased uptake of cancer screening, with the largest effect for cervical cancer screening (pooled OR 1.71, 95% CI 1.34-2.19) [6]. A scoping review concluded mHealth interventions may be an effective way to reach individuals in need of screening and improve cervical cancer screening uptake [7]. These results suggest mHealth has a role in cervical cancer screening uptake, but interventions are varied and most often comprise SMS text messages, telephone calls, or social media messaging, and less often mobile apps. The purpose of this study was to test the ease of use, usefulness, and satisfaction of the Game-Based Learning Avatar-Navigated Mobile (GLAm) app, designed to increase knowledge and awareness of cervical cancer and screening [2] and elucidate the screening process.
