The default assistant in the English version was named Clippit, after a paperclip. Although the name Clippit was used in all versions of Microsoft Office that supported the Office Assistant feature, the assistant became commonly referred to by the public as Clippy, a name which later occasionally bled into Microsoft marketing materials.[1][2][3][4] Clippy was the default Assistant, and by far the most notable (partly because in many cases the setup CD was required to install the other assistants), which also led to it being called simply the Microsoft Paperclip.[5] The Office Assistant and particularly Clippy have been the subject of numerous criticisms and parodies. In November 2021, Microsoft officially updated their design of the paperclip emoji (?) on Windows 11 to be Clippy.[6]

The Office Assistant was an intelligent user interface for Microsoft Office. It assisted users by way of an interactive animated character that interfaced with the Office help content. It was included in Microsoft Office for Windows (versions 97 to 2003), in Microsoft Publisher and Microsoft Project (versions 98 to 2003), Microsoft FrontPage (versions 2002 and 2003), and Microsoft Office for Mac (versions 98 to 2004). The default assistant in the English version was named Clippit,[1] after a paperclip.[7][8]

In July 2021, Microsoft used Twitter to show off a redesign of Clippit, and said that if it received 20,000 likes they would replace the paperclip emoji on Microsoft 365 with the character.[15] The Tweet quickly surpassed 20,000 likes and they then announced they would replace it.[16][17] In November 2021, Microsoft officially updated their design of the paperclip emoji (?) on Windows 11 to be Clippit.[6]

The default assistant in the English version was called Clippit.[7][8] The character was designed by Kevan J. Atteberry.[8][18] Clippit was by far the most notable Assistant (partly because in many cases the setup CD was required to install the other assistants), which also led to it being called simply the Microsoft Paperclip.[5] The original Clippit from Office 97 was given a new look in Office 2000.

In 2001, a Microsoft advertising campaign for Office XP included the now-defunct website officeclippy.com, which highlighted the disabling of Clippit in the software. It featured the animated adventures of Clippit (voiced by comedian Gilbert Gottfried) as he learned to cope with unemployment and parodied behaviors of the Office assistant.[31] These videos could be downloaded from Microsoft's website as self-contained Flash Player executables.[31]

Inserting free clip art in Office 2007 is easy and can add creativity to your document. There are two ways to find clip art to suit your document. You may choose to search by keyword or browse through the clip art collections available in Office 2007.

Click the image you want to insert.
The clip art is now inserted into the document.
The Picture Tools tab is selected and displays options for modifying the image.
NOTE: For more information on modifying clip art, see Overview of Clip Art: Common Toolbar Buttons.

In the Collection List section, to the left of the Office Collections list, click the plus sign.
A list of clip art categories appears.
HINT: A plus sign indicates subfolders (more specific categories).

By default, clip art is inserted in Word documents as in line with text. The text wrap feature allows you several options for positioning your clip art image in or around text. Before you can move or reposition clip art vertically, you must change the wrapping style.

To change the text wrapping style of your clip art, if it is not already selected, select your clip art by double clicking it.
Options on the Format tab should be visible.
NOTE: If commands for the Picture Tools tab do not appear, on the Ribbon, select the Format tab under Picture Tools.

But your best bet is to use premium clipart in Word from Envato Elements. Elements offers thousands of stylish clipart packs for download now. Use them to learn how to insert clipart in Word and wow every reader!

To get started finding clip art, first click on the Insert tab. Then, in the Illustrations group, click on the Pictures drop-down arrow. From the list of options, choose Online Pictures.

You could also insert several clip art images all at the same time. To do so, scroll throughout the image results and click on all the images you wish to insert. Then, press Insert. Watch as every clipart image you selected appears on your page.

For example, you can resize and rearrange clip art in Word. To begin, select the clip art, then click and drag one corner to resize the image. Then, you can click and drag on the center of the image to move it around the page.

Here, you have many choices. In the Adjust group, you can apply corrections and new colors to change up the look and feel of your clipart. In the Picture Styles group, you can add frames, borders, and more. For example, you can make your clip art black and white by opening the Color drop-down and choosing Grayscale from the Recolor group.

Begin by clicking on the drop-down arrow beside All Items. From the list of displayed options, choose Graphics. Next, type a keyword or phrase in the search bar. Click the search icon.

Then, go back to your Word document, and place the cursor where you want to insert the clip art. Click on the Insert tab. Next, click Pictures > This Device. Find your clipart page, select it by clicking, and then choose Insert.

This clip art set is perfect for any flower-related project. It delivers plenty of value: a total of 47 flower clip art images, available in both EPS and PNG file formats. The clip art images are 6 inches x 6 inches, so you can use them even in large, printed projects.

In general, clip art tends to be casual. Some may even consider it childish. So clip art tends to go better on projects that are informal in tone and visual style. Icons, on the other hand, tend to be acceptable even in more formal, academic, and corporate materials.

You can only decide on a case-by-case basis, because there are many different kinds of clip art. You may find some that work for more formal projects, especially if you get premium clip art from Elements.

Clip art continues to be a fun way to make your projects more lively, interesting, and effective. These simple graphics are easy for most users to understand. A type of clip art, the icon, has in fact become ubiquitous in digital materials and screens.

Move your cursor to the crop mark closest to the object that you wish to clip away. For instance, if a bus sits on the image's left edge, move the cursor to the crop mark on the image's left side. Your cursor changes to a crop mark.

This wikiHow teaches you how to insert clip art images in Microsoft Word for both Windows and Mac computers. While the clip art feature of previous Office products has been replaced by Bing images, it's still possible to find and insert clip art in Microsoft Word.

Clip art is a picture or graphic that can be inserted into a word processed document. Clip art comes in a wide variety of formats and styles, from a simple cartoon to a photographic image. Microsoft Word comes with its own clip art collection that you can use. We'll see how to do that in this section of the course. When you have finished, you will have produced the document below:

To see all the clip art click inside of the Search For box at the top. With your cursor flashing inside of the textbox, click the GO button. The big white area will then look something like this:

For a unique card creation experience, try lesser-known features! Try different colors for text and backgrounds to create contrast, or experiment with bolding or italicizing words to highlight important details.

Simply fantastic! I never really think of word for these types of things, but it looks like it works quite well.

Go to the Office Clip Art page and use keywords that you often use for your presentations. Then save the images or clip art you need before the site goes offline. OK, we agree that is so funny! But go ahead and save at least some content before it goes away forever. Even now you may not be able to access the site, so use this alternative URL (see Figure 2, below). Again, this link also may no longer work!

Before you start searching online through the image search options on Google or Bing, you need to be aware that every image has some license or ownership attributes. Using these images without understanding its implications may result in copyright violation. Google and Bing both provide filters to search clip media content, and we have already explored Bing Image search options within our Bing Image Search series of tutorials. Searching with the license filters allows you to find content you can use in your slides.

Although Microsoft no longer provides free clip art via Office.com, there are plenty of other resources that are still available to you. However, you need to ascertain whether these resources work for you, and also if their license terms are suitable for your use. Our Free Images & Textures page has many such resources listed.
