Hi everyone,

The final round of this season's inter-club series is being held at Port Hacking Open Sailing Club on Saturday 21 March.  This will be followed on Sunday 22 March by the Heron World Single Handed Championship!!

I have attached the Notice of Race/Sailing Instructions and also a access map.

There are four confirmed entries from Qld this year so I encourage as many NSW/ACT based Heron sailors to turn up and make it a great weekend.

Notwithstanding the government’s advisory that sporting events involving more than 500 people be postponed, I can confirm that the 4th round of the Heron Interclub series and 5th Heron World Championship is still on this coming weekend at Port Hacking Open Sailing Club!! The weather forecast is for a southerly at around 12 knots. Perfect

Hi all

Although the last round of the NSW Interclub Series has been cancelled we advise that the 5th Annual Single Handed Heron World Championship  will take place this weekend.

The Championship will now be held over two days being both Saturday and Sunday.

The format will be 2 longer races on Saturday afternoon commencing at 1.30pm and 3 shorter races on Sunday also starting at 1.30pm.

Each race on Saturday will consist of one lap and one windward leeward of our Standard Club race course with clubhouse start and finishes.

Each race on Sunday will consist of a shorter single lap and windward leeward on the broadwater course  with start and finish using a starter boat and finishing boat.

We advise the we have 12 confirmed entries for the Championship and entries are still open for those who may wish to participate.

There will be a large competitive fleet so the sailing will be intense.

For anyone who was intending to participate in the interclub race with a crew we advise that you can still participate with a crew of two and your finishing time will be reduced to accommodate the heavier crew weight based on our standard 2 minute adjustment which will be corrected for the shorter length of races.

We regret that we have had to cancel the Saturday evening barbeque due to difficulties purchasing sufficient sausages and bread rolls for that event but we will be having a drink afterwards.

It will be a great event and if you can make it you will be more than welcome.

Regards

Peter Connor

Hi all

The 5th Annual Single Handed World Championship has been run and won.

Congratulations to Paul Armstrong (the 2nd) for an outstanding performance in taking out 4 of the 5 heats  of the Championship.

The series was conducted over 2 days with 2 great middle distance races on Saturday with a nice southerly breeze and 3 sprint series heats on Sunday with a late easterly breeze that started variable but set in nicely for the last 2 heats.

The racing was close for most heats and Paul had to work hard to achieve his results.

12 herons took part and over the 2 days and on the Saturday 2 boats participated with a crew due to the changed arrangement in respect of the previously scheduled Interclub race.

I heron had a combined junior crew who were treated as a single hander for the series.

And now for the results

1st    O For Awesome    Paul Armstrong
2nd   Flat Chat               Steve Imlay
3rd    Heronasaurus       Travis Read
4th   Grey Pearl             Peter Connor
5th   Rogue One            Russell Sullivan
6th   Lets Play               Mick Armstrong
7th   Lottie                     Peter Jessep
8th   Gone Bananas      Xavier Armstrong and Flynn Read

10th Normie                  Chris Gothard

The format of the racing was so popular that we anticipate a 2 day event for the Championship next year.
Also to help everyone get through the sailing blues I have attached some photos of the event.
