Hi All, I am 50, based in North india and have a left inguinal hernia size of a golf ball. I need this fixed and have done enough research looking at various research outcomes all over the world.
My investigation tells me that Desarda repair is at par with any Mesh repairs in terms of outcome (recurrence) and seems to be superior in terms of post-op complications, recovery times & cost. There is enough evidence and data available globally, so I have made up my mind to go with the desarda repair.
I have the following ques for the surgery:
1 ) I am very active : running, biking, lift weights. This hernia has caused a severe blow to my physical activity. This has made me extremely nervous and depressed. Does desarda repair provide enough strength to the abdominal wall to allow the level of activity after recovery? Will I be able to return to my normal life?
2) Since Dr Desarda doesn't do the surgery himself, he seems to recommend a consultant Dr Sushil Deshmukh in Pune (trained by Dr Desarda himself). Has anyone got themselves operated from Dr. Deshmukh? Any feedback? He seems to be a nice guy but he is general surgery. Most general surgeons do like 2-3 hernia surgeries in a month which is not that much. How complex is this surgery? Can a general surgeon successfully perform this procedure?
In my opinion most surgeons want to perform laproscopic or robotic mesh surgery because that is where the money is and mesh is a billion dollar industry, so its understandable.
Can anyone please recommend a doctor in india (any state) who performs desarda repair regularly and is expert at it. I will really appreciate all the help!!
To good health.
Sincerely
Manny Singh
