hi group,  i think that my h was caused by straining to defacate. i still have trouble with that and i made a sort of homemade "open system" device for extra help with the bowel. it is called a colema and it is a cross between the enema and the colonic. it is self administered.has anybody experimented with that. if so i would like to share ideas.  matt

Buddy! You need more fiber! Less or no white flour or white bread, etc. Less meat. Take at least 200 mg of MSM and 400 or 500mg of Magnesium. Be careful, you may poop like a goose. Eat your veggies raw. Stay as far away from cooked foods as you would an MD.

Hey Matt

I totally agree with the extra magnesium. The older we get the more we need. I take 800 mg every twelve hours and eat blueberry yogurt every night before i retire and every morning when i get up I have a perfect bowel movement!

At my age this is the right amount. Your age and condition will determine the right amount for your system. Dutty has a good suggestion with 200mg. Start out minimal.

Hi Matt!

MSM = METHYL SULFONYL METHANE  Jarrow puts out a 1000 mg capsule. It is naturally in every cell of your body. But the added amount helps to strengthen skin & joint structure. It a yoga guru recommended it to me as being helpful as an aid to stretching. I found that taking more than one is a definite aid to bowel movements.

I take Source Naturals Magnesium Malate. According to Stu Mittleman, in Slow Burn, who ran 1000 miles in 11 days, and felt better at the end than he did when starting, malate is good for the heart. He recommended Magnesium malate, so that what I use. I only use 1 tablet which is about 133 mg. More gives me the runs.

Question: how much do you move? Do you walk at all? or run? doing yoga or tai chi helps, but walking for an hour a day is extremely important. But start out slow if you have not been walking. One of my boys won't have a bowel movement unless he walks.

Hopes that helps.

Dutty

I take the generic stuff off the Walmart shelf, Matt! Itr is magnesium oxide with zinc gluconate. Nothing special I suppose. It works fine for me! The manufacturer is Spring Valley.   Wilson

Keep in mind I'm 66 and a colon cancer survivor (surgically cured) ....I take 800 mg magnesium oxide w/zinc every 12 hours along with several other herbs....cinnamon; garlic; ginger; bilberry; niacin; and a few others....happy supplementing!
